In another unlikely matchup at the Wimbledon Championships, Jelena Ostapenko and Barbora Krejcikova square off in the quarterfinals on Wednesday in London.
Ostapenko will be the favorite with expectations of landing a semifinal appearance at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. With odds at -225, the Latvian native hasn’t dropped a set from four main draw wins but the same cannot be said for Krejcikova.
The Czech Republic native has put the miserable experience on clay behind her, although she has played many games at Wimbledon to reach this stage.
EJ Garr’s Jelena Ostapenko vs Barbora Krejcikova prediction features odds at even money on a first-set prop which you can find below.

Jelena has gotten her game back in shape and is finally getting the wins she desperately wanted to start the grass season. As the defending champ, Birmingham was a one-and-done situation and after only one win at Eastbourne, the Latvian was 1 – 2 coming into Wimbledon on a down note. The win over Yulia Putintseva is certainly the most impressive victory of Ostapenko’s tournament, especially after the Kazakh had just taken out Swiatek in the previous round. (That call bit me in the ass on Monday).
While Jelena has been easing her way to the quarterfinal, Barbora has spent a good amount of time on the court from her four wins. Krejcikova’s first match in this event set the tone for what we might expect from the Czech again today, and that is a high game count.
This match total is 21.5 which means the line setters expect that potential third set, although Krejcikova and Kudermetova hit that number in the first two sets alone in round 1 (7 – 6, 6 – 7, 7 – 5).
I am calling for a wide-open first set to this affair, and I expect the game count to reach 10 at minimum. A 6 – 4 result will do the trick and with even money on the return, that is more than feasible for me. If this first set goes the distance, Bet365 offers a +550 line on the Over 12.5 games, so don’t be surprised if they get there!
Jelena Ostapenko is playing in her 10th grass quarterfinal match and is 5 – 2 on this surface after a disappointing 6 – 4 record on the clay.
The Latvian has yet to produce a losing record on this surface in any campaign. Overall, Jelena is 53 – 23 on the grass over her career.
Krejcikova won a doubles title at Wimbledon in 2022 but has never advanced past the quarters as a singles player. This is the first time since her run to the final last year at Birmingham that she has a four-match win streak on this surface.
Barbora was 0 – 4 on the clay this season and has only played 20 matches in 2024 with an 11 – 9 record, including the 4 – 0 record at Wimbledon.
Ostapenko has won 5 of the 7 meetings with Krejcikova taking wins from the last three times they’ve met.
As part of Ostapenko’s run to the 2023 title in Birmingham, Krejcikova was her last opponent as they met in the final.
This will be the second meeting on the grass between them.
