Iva Jovic is favored to defeat Julia Riera, and I am challenging the line setters with that call.

The +130 odds on Riera to be the one advancing is the first offer I will put on your table this morning, and that comes with bacon! The same bacon we’ll be making when Riera upsets Jovic and reaches the quarterfinals of this WTA250 event from Colombia.

Did you see how we escaped with a push with Francesca Jones? I had the Brit advancing, and Riera was on the verge of upsetting Jones at 5 – 3 in the third set. Jones was so out of gas that she collapsed working her way back to the bench, and we were all concerned.

I am sure it was hard for Riera to be handed a victory, and no one wants to see their opponent leave the court like that. Regardless, the Argentine native has to be happy she’s here, and I don’t think she’s done in Colombia yet.

I will take Riera over Jovic, despite the convincing win over Alycia Parks for the American in the last round. Jovic had some success last season on the dirt with 10 wins from 14 outings, but the list of names won’t inspire anyone.

Riera has seven ITF titles on clay, and that experience is enough for me to make a play on the Argentine to cover the +2.5 games, and sprinkle a bit on the upset win over Jovic.
