Lucrezia Stefanini carries a 7-match win streak into her first-round battle with Lin Zhu on Monday at Nottingham as the grass season gets underway. Ej’s Stefanini vs Zhu prediction features odds at +138 and can be found below.
Stefanini is ranked 169th in the world, and she finds herself listed as the underdog against 58th-ranked Zhu who is struggling to find a lick of consistency.
Zhu produced a 0 – 5 record on clay and already has a loss on Grass as she tries to erase a 6-match skid on Monday.
Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time June 10, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Stefanini didn’t fare well on clay this year, so when she was bounced out of the French Open early she headed to Portugal. After a 5 – 0 run to the title at the W50 Montemor-O-Novo event, Stefanini is 2 – 0 from two qualifying matches in Nottingham to start her grasscourt campaign.
Lin Zhu was thrilled to see the clay swing of the WTA Tour come to an end, and that’s because she didn’t win a match on the dirt in 2024. Zhu could only win two sets from those five affairs, and she’s already 0 – 1 on Grass.
Zhu fell to 137-ranked Taylah Prestonat Surbiton on June 4 making a quick exit from the W100 level event in three sets. Now enthralled in a 6-match losing slide, Zhu being favored doesn’t give me a reason to think she will win this match.
It will take more than that to convince me that Zhu can beat anyone right now, and at +138 I am not letting a play on Stefanini go by when she provides a first-round upset in Nottingham.
I will ride with the woman who has a semblance of confidence coming into this event, even though she wasn’t convincing with her first qualifying match against Banks. The Italian needed three sets to get past Banks, and then Stefanini rolled over Talia Gibson to land in the last spot in the top bracket against 7th-seeded Zhu.
Gibson and Stefanini had just met in the Finals in Portugal, a week before their final qualifying match here in Nottingham.
My Stefanini vs Zhu prediction is for Stefanini to win!
Stefanini is in her best form carrying an 8-match win streak into her first-round battle on Monday with Zhu.
Lucrezia won her eighth title in the last four seasons with the title in Portugal, and she needs a big run in Nottingham to get closer to that 123rd-ranking where she was last season.
Zhu has to regain her confidence after losing her opening game in all five clay tournaments only to be bounced in her first match on Grass at Surbiton.
Zhu was ranked 37th during the 2023 campaign, but since achieving her personal best rank she has fallen to 58th and that number could fall with another first-round loss in Nottingham as a slight favorite.
This will be the first encounter between Stefanini and Zhu on any surface.
