Magda Frech has reached the quarterfinals of a WTA event four previous times in her career, and that has been as good as it gets for the Polish National. Frech made her life more difficult on Tuesday against Czech native Dominika Šalková after blowing a 4 – 0 second-set lead that she eventually lost in a tie-break.

Šalková pushed Frech to a third set but after 2 – 2 in the final frame the Czech exited herself from the court and that’s how Magda landed in the quarterfinal. We will never know if the Pole would have earned her way here but there’s no crying in tennis so she’ll take it.

Kalinina has been pushed to a third set twice in two matches in Prague similar to Frech, but the Ukraine native closed out Sara Bejlek and Elsa Jacquemot with equivalent 6 – 2 final frames.

The fact that they have both been pushed to three sets in the first and second rounds makes it easy for me to suggest the prospect of it happening again in this quarterfinal affair in Prague.
