A pair of Argentinians will square off in the quarterfinals of the Argentina Open when Maria Carle and Julia Riera battle it out on Friday in Buenos Aires.

Maria Lourdes Carle is the 3 seed in this WTA125 event and her compatriot Julia Riera carried the 6 seed into the main draw.

Maria Carle has defeated Julia Riera three times in three meetings during the 2023 campaign and is favored to find a fourth win against her native opponent.

EJ Garr’s Maria Carle vs. Julia Riera prediction calls for a battle that goes the distance so take advantage of the +140 offer below.

Maria Carle vs Julia Riera WTA Argentina Open Prediction: We’re Going The Distance

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +140
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on November 29, 2024. Odds may now differ.

We’re going the distance! Stop me if you have heard those words come out of my mouth before.

It’s too late because I already put it out there and I expect this to be a tight battle even though the line setters do not. Carle is favored at odds of -210 to reach the semifinal and get past fellow-Argentinian Julia Riera which she has never struggled with before.

These two met three times during the 2023 campaign and Carle had her way with Riera which I will discuss later. That experience will come in handy but I foresee a closer battle that will need three sets to decide a victor.

The total for this quarterfinal is 21.5 games and anyone taking that over will likely need that third frame to finish the job. The -3.5 handicap toward a Carle cover might be tricky because we are going the distance and they might be tied at 6 – 3, 3 – 6 entering the final frame.

BetMGM here in New York offers a +320 line on the 2 – 1 correct score prop with Carle winning the match in three sets. I will toss some cookies at that action because the boost to my ROI will thank me later.

Ironically, Carle just lost to Nina Stojanovic in the finals of the Colina Challenger, and Riera’s first-round win in this event came against Stojanovic.

You have some bets full of value to take advantage of so get your action on the board!

MARIA LOURDES CARLE RECENT FORM

Maria Carle has claimed six clay court titles over the last three campaigns with two coming in 2024.

Carle is 28 – 13 on clay this year and the 43 – 27 record ensures a fifth consecutive winning campaign for the 92nd-ranked 24-year-old Argentinian.

JULIA RIERA RECENT FORM

Julia Riera is 7 – 3 over the last 10 outings and has ensured a fourth consecutive winning season. At 41 – 24 this year, Riera has earned a 28 – 13 record on clay chasing title #3 in 2024.

Riera is ranked 112th on the WTA Tour. The 22-year-old Argentinian lost her quarterfinal doubles outing yesterday playing with partner Maria Perez Garcia.

CARLE VS RIERA HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Carle and Riera played three times during the 2023 campaign and Carle was the victor each time.

They first met at the WTA60 Bodrum tourney in Turkey, and Julia Carle smashed her way to a straight-sets win. Last December, Carle and Riera clashed in the semifinal of the Argentina Open and the game went three sets before Carle advanced to the finals.

Their last meeting was in Montevideo to end the 2023 season in Uruguay, and Carle won that match in straight sets.

The winner of this quarterfinal match at the Argentina Open will face either Katarzyna Kawa or Darja Semenistaja in the semis. Ej will have a prediction posted for that affair.
