Marina Stakusic vs Anna Schmiedlova Prediction: Slovakian Expected to Advance

- Best Odds: +159
- Bookmaker: Pinnacle

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on September 10, 2024.
Marina Stakusic had nearly a month off after Wimbledon to return to North America. After a relatively successful grass swing the Canadian has struggled to return to hard-court action.
Stakusic is 0 – 4 and 1 – 6 in her last 7 outings with the one win coming in her native Canada at the event in Toronto. With the one win over Erike Andreeva in Toronto, Marina is 1 – 5 on the Continent and is an underdog to kick off the Guadalajara Open.
Playing in higher-level events has proved tough for the 19-year-old Mississauga, Ontario native, but three Major Tournaments experiences this season are just the beginning. With three wins in Wimbledon qualifying for her first Main Draw appearance, Stakusic returned to North America and hasn’t fared well.
Ranked 155th on the WTA Tour, Stakusic put up a tremendous 2023 campaign ending with a 14 – 3 runs and the thoughts were that she could take that experience and grow in 2024.
Anna Schmiedlova has been anything but consistent lately although this is her second week in Mexico after reaching the semifinal of the first event here in Mexico last week. An ugly loss to Tatjana Maria at love and 2 in straight sets didn’t do much to lift the Slovakian’s confidence.
Anna will advance but we are going the distance because of some bad tennis and plenty of breaks of serve. Expect the game count to build and a three-set affair will help us cash a nice +159 ticket on Tuesday in Mexico.
MARINA STAKUSIC RECENT FORM
Stakusic has struggled to pick up wins since returning to North America but the Canadian native has pushed two of the last four opponents to a third set. Albeit four losses in a row, Marina has a level 16- 16 record in 2024 and needs to make a strong finish to the campaign.
Stakusic was 26- 5 with 3 ITF titles in 2023 and this was the first year that Marina took on the grass and amazingly will be the only surface she produces a winning record in 2024. Marina has a 4 – 6 record on hard courts this season.
ANNA SCHMIEDLOVA RECENT FORM
Anna Schmiedlova came up one spot short of a medal at the Paris Olympics and it’s been an adventure in North America since then.
A loss to Clara Tauson in Cleveland led to a second loss to Tauson at the US Open which is not the best way to kick off the North American swing.
Anna won three matches in the first Guadalajara event last week and it might have saved her a trip outside the top 100 in the rankings. At 98th coming into this event, Anna is 30 – 22 this year with a 13 – 11 record on hard courts.
STAKUSIC VS SCHMIEDLOVA H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
This is the first meeting on the WTA Tour between Marina Stakusic and Anna Schmiedlova.
The winner of this first-round affair will advance to face 1-seed Jelena Ostapenko at the top of the upper bracket.
