Martina Trevisan and Louisa Chirico will play the first two semifinal affairs on Friday at the Bastad Challenger in Sweden, and the Italian lands the role of favorite.
While the clay swing of the WTA Tour turned to grass for most players after the French Open, we still have dirt to discuss as the Nordea Open comes closer to a conclusion on Friday.
The 216th-ranked American has been an underdog in two of her three matches in Bastad, and Chricio will again be playing that role in this semifinal.
EJ Garr’s Martina Trevisan vs Louisa Chirico prediction features a line at +145 on a first-set prop so check out his tip below.

I am a huge fan of Louisa Chirico for a couple of reasons.
First of all, Louisa was raised in Harrison, NY, which is about 15 minutes away from my hometown in Larchmont. Secondly, the commitment to playing on the dirt is rare for an American after the French Open because we don’t produce clay tennis players like Europe and South America tend to do.
Most of, if not all of Chirico’s success has been captured at the ITF level, and she does have one title at a WTA75 event in Charlottesville this year. This WTA125 event has presented bigger challenges for Chirico but she has stepped up with two impressive wins over Zarazua and Zavatska.
Martina Trevisan would play her entire season on clay if she had the ability, and that’s because, well, she stinks on every other surface. Sorry to be blunt but let’s face the fact that if she gets near grass it’s an automatic loss and her hard court numbers leave plenty of room for improvement.
The fact this match is on the clay is why Trevisan is a huge favorite to reach the final but I don’t think it will be that easy. Chrico excels on clay, and this can be a big proving ground with an upset over Trevisan.
The Handicap at +4.5 sure looks tempting too because I do expect this to be a lengthy battle that needs three sets to decide a victor.
What I see happening is a first set that potentially goes the distance, and I love this +145 offer from 1XBet to expect more than 9.5 Games in the opening frame.
Martina Trevisan’s record on clay since 2017 is 97 – 68, and her record on grass is 1 – 11. She made a quick stop at Wimbledon this year but Madison Keys sent her packing early in her only appearance on grass.
Trevisan needed three sets to get past her opening challenger Astra Sharma in Bastad, and Miriam Bulgaru, ranked 218th in the world gave Martina a good fight in the second round, 6 – 4, 6 – 4.
Martina is still getting in game shape after missing some time from that injury in Miami, and she has been questioned about her game shape since late March Trevisan is carrying her first 3-match win streak of this season into the semifinals so let’s see how she holds up with pressure to win as the heavy fav.
Louisa Chirico plays a similar game to Trevisan as they both love this surface and the American has great length at 5; 9” to keep points alive.
Chirico has been playing since 2013 but she still has yet to have that breakout season to keep the ranking inside the top 200. The lack of success on hard courts and grass will always be an issue for Louisa as it has been for Trevisan.
Chirco has a record of 97 – 76 on clay with three career titles on the surface.
Trevisan and Chirci met in 2019 at the Brescia Challenger in Itay, and Martina earned a straight-sets win, 6 – 4, 7 – 5.
