Marton Fucsovics vs Alex Molcan Best Bet: Monday, March 13th

Lovely stuff from Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Friday, beating the upstart Yibing Wu. The lack of experience in slower conditions was apparent for Wu as the match wore on and the win ensured we ended the week going four wins from four on our selections across the men’s and women’s tours.

Onto Monday, where we’re still in the California desert for the second week of the Indians Wells Masters. Let’s take a look at the third-round match between Marton Fucsovics and Alex Molcan.

Marton Fucsovics vs Alex Molcan Preview

March 13th, 22:00 (UK Time)

This will probably clock in as one of the least-viewed matches of the third round from the men’s draw.

That does not mean there isn’t value to be found betting the match, however, as this tilt pits two incredibly tough baseline grinders against one another.

The problem is, this is priced with Fucsovics as a pretty solid favourite. That I take an issue with.

For starters, Molcan is more adept at playing in slower conditions. His grinding, defensive style, paired with topspin is a strong combination on higher-bouncing courts. Fucsovics, without weapons, finds it tough to really construct points and pull the ball around the court as well as clay-oriented players (like Molcan). He dispatched a similar player as himself in Alex de Minaur last round, but outside of his title in Acapulco (the exception, more so than the rule for him), he’s always been someone that prefers quicker courts as well.

Next, Fucsovics has historically struggled at Indian Wells. Coming into this season, he had just one win at the event. This week he has two more, but both were against players that prefer hard courts (de Minaur and J.J. Wolf). Here, he comes up against someone in form that prefers slower conditions, and who has looked even more impressive through two rounds.

I’m happy to back Molcan to once again get the job done, despite the markets not according him much respect.

Marton Fucsovics vs Alex Molcan Best Bet

It’s pretty evident to me that Molcan continues to be undervalued at this event.

He was a ridiculous 3.65 underdog against a relatively out-of-form Borna Coric who hasn’t shown much of anything on slow surfaces since returning from injury. He won that in straight sets and by a six-game margin.

In the first round? You guessed it. An underdog to Albert Ramos Vinolas. He won that one in straight sets as well, that one by a seven-game margin.

Now he’s once again an established outsider against Fucsovics – someone who isn’t in his ideal surroundings. I’ll take Molcan to come through with a nice
