Nick Hardt vs Joao Lucas Reis da Silva Best Bet: Thursday, May 4th

Well, I said that Karen Khachanov would need a near-perfect service day, and naturally, the one day I bet on Carlos Alcaraz in the midst of his dominant run, he ended up failing to dominate. It’s just so predictable at this point.

For Thursday, we’ll go to the Challenger circuit for our best bet from men’s tennis, and look at the match between Nick Hardt and Joao Lucas Reis da Silva from Coquimbo, Chile.

Nick Hardt vs Joao Lucas Reis da Silva Preview

May 4th, 17:00 (UK Time)

Well this one should be a contrast in styles on Thursday afternoon.

Hardt brings the rock-solid consistency and ability to work the ball around the court and give himself space to hit through to the table, while Reis da Silva is much more on the serve-and-forehand power side of things, while also being a proficient clay courter.

My issue with the Brazilian here is that he is so volatile and ends up committing a lot of unforced errors more often than not. That doesn’t bode well out of elevated conditions in general, but much less so against someone of Hardt’s player profile. The 22-year-old Dominican is well positioned to coax those errors from Reis da Silva’s racquet with his incredible defensive abilities and consistent play from the baseline.

Reis da Silva has – to be fair to him – has dominated his opposition this week, but I’m not sold on either win.

He beat a pair of fellow Brazilians en route to the quarterfinals in Pedro Boscardin Dias and Eduardo Ribeiro. While the former has some promise with his heavy serve and decent forehand, his baseline game is far too raw to really put much stock in that win. The latter is another player who can turn some heads on his day but is a long way off from being a real consistent threat at this level at this point.

Nick Hardt vs Joao Lucas Reis da Silva Best Bet

While I’m not sold on the quality of Reis da Silva’s competition to this point this week, I do think the market should give him some credit for his dominant performances.

While I think they’ve gone a bit too far to keep this to just -3 games on the handicap, I don’t think this is a gross mistake that would justify a rather large staking, so I’ll just stick with a relatively standard-sized staking on this one.

  • Selection: Hardt -3 Games
  • Best Odds: 1.93 (Pinnacle)
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as at 4:30 am on May 3rd, 2023. Odds may now differ.
