Radu Albot vs Geoffrey Blancaneaux Best Bet: Friday, January 27th

Nice win for the Thursday selection, as Arthur Fils and Gijs Brouwer needed 3 sets to complete their match, sending the total number of games well over the 22.5 required.

For Friday, we stay in Quimper to preview the match between Radu Albot and another Frenchman in Geoffrey Blancaneaux.

Radu Albot vs Geoffrey Blancaneaux Preview

January 27th, 13:00 (UK Time)

A nice draw here for Albot in his quarterfinal match against Blancaneaux who, despite improvements in the last year or two on hard courts, is still primarily a hard courter, and someone the Moldovan matches up with decently.

A former top-40 player, the 33-year-old Albot is clinging onto his top-100 status, and once the rankings update after the Australian Open, he’s set to drop further without a deep run in Quimper.

The fact remains, however, that he has been a tour regular for years, and his hard courts are by far his most preferred surface, two things that cannot be said about the younger Frenchman.

Blancaneaux will surely have the crowd at his back, but I’m not sure that’s enough to overcome the rock-solid consistency from the baseline of Albot and the surface edge he’s sure to enjoy.

Blancaneaux’s numbers on hard courts did improve a bit in 2022 at the Challenger level versus his 2021 statistics, but his service numbers are nothing to write home about. Without a big serve to find cheap points, it becomes incredibly difficult to beat a savvy player like Albot.

Radu Albot vs Geoffrey Blancaneaux Best Bet

I was surprised to see Albot at above 1.50 to win this match and his handicap to be lower than 3.5 games.

My first instinct was to check if he’s playing in qualifiers somewhere next week, but with the ATP Tour off for Davis Cup qualifiers, he’s set to play another Challenger, seeded in the main draw in Koblenz.

There shouldn’t be any motivation issues here, especially with his ranking set to drop even more, and considering his vast experience edge on hard courts and quicker surfaces compared to his counterpart in this one, I’m happy to back him with his handicap sitting at just 2.5 games.

  • Selection: Albot -2.5 Games
  • Best Odds: 2.00 (Bet365)
  • Stakes: 4/10

Odds as at 3:00 am on January 27th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
