Wildcard Shuai Zhang will take on Magdalena Frech in the fourth round of the China Open on Monday and with no surprise the Polish native will be the favorite to reach the quarterfinals.

After losing 24 straight outings, Shuai Zhang has found herself in China and has picked up two high-quality wins in Beijing over the first week of this WTA1000 event.

At -225, the Polish native is riding a 7-match win streak into this fourth-round affair, but EJ Garr’s Shuai Zhang vs. Magdalena Frech prediction features odds at -115, which you can find below.

Shuai Zhang vs Magdalena Frech Prediction: A Resurgence At Home in China

  • Prediction: Shuai Zhang +3.5 Games
  • Best Odds: -115
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on September 30, 2024.

Shuai Zhang was 0 for 24 coming into Beijing and the China native has found her game again this week.

We know it’s not the home crowd providing a lift because if you have been watching this WTA1000 event in Beijing the stands have been empty all week. I don’t know how the WTA reports that an attendance record was broken on Saturday because I have been watching this event and posted as much on my Twitter feed.

I counted about 26 people at the Zhang vs. Minnen match this weekend so home crowd support is not a thing in this event even for the locals.

Despite the limited audience, something happened this week for Shuai Zhang and no one can explain this resurgence after getting dumped 24 straight times before entering Beijing. Sometimes being in your home country is enough to provide a lift but what we have seen from Zhang this past week has been incredible.

Emma Navarro? Beat down! Greet Minnen? Thumped! McCartney Kessler gave Zhang a match in the first round but Zhang still advanced past the American in straight sets.

I am not fading the 38-year-old China native against Magda Frech today and the Zhang +3.5 games handicap is going on the board.

Frech has been pushed the three sets in each of her China Open affairs and it was a close call for the Polish native this weekend against Diana Shnaider after dropping the first set 6 – 0.

SHUAI ZHANG RECENT FORM

Shuai Zhang endured the second-longest losing streak in the history of the WTA dropping 24 consecutive contests entering Beijing/

The Chinese native didn’t win a match from February of 2023 until this past week as over 600 days passed between victories.

Zhang is ranked 595th on the WTA Tour and is 564 spots behind 31st-ranked Frech having only played in 11 matches this season.

At 3 – 8, Zhang went 4 – 19 in 2023 and is 0 – 10 combined on grass and clay over the last two campaigns.

MAGDALENA FRECH RECENT FORM

Magda Frech has won her last 7 outings and earned the first tourney tile of the campaign at Guadalajara before entering Beijing. After reeling off 5 wins in Mexico, Frech is 2 – 0 but has been pushed to three sets in two wins in China this past week.

Frech is 25 – 13 on hardcourts this season and has a 38 – 26 record in 2024.

ZHANG VS FRECH H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Zhang and Frech have a win from two meetings on the WTA Tour.

In 2018, Zhang took down Frech at Hiroshima in straight sets, and in last year’s French Open Frech exacted revenge and leveled the series at 1 – 1.
