The men’s selection comes through again on Wednesday, as the solidity of Marcos Giron extended Tallon Griekspoor’s indoor hard court woes in 2022. He faced just three break points in the match – all in one game, serving for the first set at 5-4. We love to see it.
Onto Thursday, where we’ll break down the match between Cameron Norrie and Marcos Giron (again!) to find our best selection from Vienna.

Well, I’m very appreciative of Giron’s efforts on Wednesday in assisting me to increase my bankroll, but on Thursday, I’ll actually be looking to oppose him, rather than back him for a second time.
Always fun in this industry to be able to bet on someone’s success one day and expect them to lose the next. Alas, considering the matchup, quality of competition and the games handicap involved in this market, I’m content doing just that.
The British No. 1 is a much different animal than Giron’s first-round opponent. For starters, hard courts are his preferred surface. Then there’s the fact that Norrie’s style is the polar opposite to that of Griekspoor, as he’s incredibly consistent from the baseline, rarely gives points away, yet can still construct points in a way that allows him to win points and not just wait for errors from his opposition.
It was a close call in his first match against Pedro Cachin, but the Argentinian’s improved serve, added aggression and bigger forehand were finding ways to keep points short against Norrie. That is something Giron will struggle to do.
The American is consistent in his own right, but not at the same level as Norrie. He’s also not the best at opening up space to hit through using angles and variety as Norrie is. Finally, while he’s decent enough at defending, once again, he’s a step below Norrie’s level in that regard as well.
This comes down to Norrie just being able to match or exceed all of Giron’s strengths while having an added dimension to his game.
I don’t think three games is quite enough on the handicap and would have this much closer to -3.5 games at about 1.86, with the -4 games closer to 2.00 or 2.05. With the flat -3 being available at its current price, I’m seeing some pretty decent value.
Odds as at 9:25 am on October 27th, 2022. Odds may now differ.
