Wednesday Tennis Best Bet: ATP Kitzbuhel, Pablo Andujar vs Filip Misolic
Pablo Andujar vs Filip Misolic Best Bet: Wednesday, July 27th
Well, after Nicolas Jarry blew the medium-stakes over 22.5 games from a tiebreak in the first set and a chance to go up a break in the second set to lock in the wager, we look to regroup.
There’s no doubt that we’ve experienced quite a few more losses from dominant positions since May than the reverse, but we hope at some point that negative variance turns positive.
For Wednesday’s matchup from the men’s events, we stick with the event in Kitzbuhel, where Austrian wild card Filip Misolic takes on the veteran clay courter, Pablo Andujar.

Pablo Andujar vs Filip Misolic Preview
Wednesday, July 27th, 13:00 UK Time
What a chance for the young upstart playing in his native country to advance to an ATP World Tour level quarterfinal. After beating Daniel Dutra da Silva in the opening round, he gets a tougher opponent – though one who very well could’ve been gone in the first round himself – next.
The 20-year-old Misolic made waves earlier in the season when he claimed the Zagreb Challenger title as a qualifier. He then followed up that by immediately reaching the semifinals in Tunis the next week.
With a strong understanding of how to play on clay courts, a strong forehand that can dictate points and a decent first serve (that will only be served well by playing at altitude in Kitzbuhel), Misolic is well-equipped to be a problem for the foreseeable future on the red clay courts.
His ability to play with topspin is impressive, as he forced Dutra da Silva to the back wall several times with the air he was able to get after some of his forehands landed.
Andujar, on the other hand, is a wily veteran, whose game style is all about pinpoint accuracy with some sneaky pace to boot. He’s not known for dictating the majority of points in most matches and he won’t dazzle with his shotmaking, but he is rock solid from the baseline and will take advantage of erratic players.
The 36-year-old had an awful clay-court season aside from a run at the Iasi Challenger against a poor field (he didn’t really look convincing in the final two matches either) and should probably have been out in the first round. He trailed Lorenzo Sonego 0-4 in the deciding set before the Italian completely collapsed, losing all ability to land his forehand in the court.
Considering that it ended in a third-set tiebreak after nearly 2 hours and 45 minutes of play, one has to wonder if fatigue may be an issue for the 36-year-old Spaniard.
Pablo Andujar vs Filip Misolic Best Bet
When looking to oppose a favourite like Andujar, there are a few boxes I like to check. First, are we getting nice over even odds? Do we have a capable player on the surface where the match is being played? Misolic checks both of these boxes. Is the favourite out of form? Potential fatigue? We can also answer “yes” to both of those questions.
With a talented young gun on the surface at nice underdog odds against a veteran who’s struggled of late and needed an incredibly unlikely win to reach this position, I’ll gladly back Misolic.
