The pair recently met in the last Major Tournament of the campaign at the US Open and the Ukraine native provided the upset over the Brit.

At -160, Kartal is favored again over the Ukrainian native despite being ranked 150th on the WTA Tour. Starodubsteva entered the week ranked 130th just ahead of Kartal but once again the line setters want to point folks to a win for the Brit in Tunisia.

I am not buying into that one bit after the upset in the last meeting and at +140 I expect plenty of bettors to jump on the Ukrainian to take the victory in this match.

This quarterfinal affair at the WTA250 event in Monastir will be an epic clash that goes the distance again similarly to what transpired in New York last month.

Kartal and Starodubtseva have provided a big upset in this event, as Sonay wiped out the 5-seed Jacqui Cristian in the first round and Yulia just dumped Diane Parry out of the event as the 4-seed. Starodubtseva was barely an underdog in the second round against Parry who was ranked 55th on the WTA Tour.

Starodubsteva and Kartal are both having decent campaigns and all I can see is another 3-set affair in this quarterfinal affair. Yulia has the confidence from beating Kartal in August and Kartal is producing some impressive numbers in 2024 which points me to an extended battle that goes the distance!

Yulia is 70 – 36 in two years on the WTA Tour and after winning four ITF titles last season the Ukraine native has yet to add any hardware to the shelf in 2024.

Starodubtseva is 19 – 9 on hardcourts this season after producing a 24 – 6 record on this surface in 2023.

Despite belting out only 1 ace against Parry in the second round, Yulia had no double faults and put up a 74% first-serve percentage against the Mademoiselle to advance to the quarters in Tunisia.

SONAY KARTAL RECENT FORM

Kartal is 40 – 7 this season and granted, she has played in mostly ITF/Challenger events but wins are wins no matter how they come. 

Kartal is 32 – 3 on hardcourts this season and the Brit skipped the clay swing of the campaign despite being 21 – 8 over the last three campaigns on the dirt.
