Our second preview of the day comes from the Copa Colsanitas Zurich in Bogota, as the WTA 250 is just about back on schedule after rain canceled all but one match on Monday. Let’s look more into our Zarazua vs Rakhimova prediction. Rakhimova’s win probability is 52.4% while her opponent is priced to win at 1.91 odds. The handicap is 0.5 games and the total games line is 21.5.

There isn’t a lot I like more about Rakhimova relative to Zarazua entering this matchup. The season has been pretty poor for her, her style doesn’t suit the conditions nearly as much. While they were both tasked with a teenaged Colombian wild card in the opening round, only Zarazua came away with a convincing win.
I have the world No. 103 as the favorite entering this one. \Her much more consistent playing style is far more likely to succeed in the elevated conditions in the Colombian capital. Our Zarazua vs Rakhimova prediction is for Zarazua to win.
Other than a surprising qualifying run into the main draw of the Australian Open, Zarazua’s hard-court season went about as well as you’d expect. With a very defensive mindset and without much power to rely on, hard courts are not going to be where she finds most of her success.
That’s why the coming months are likely to be welcomed by the Mexican No. 1. Wednesday could help her reach a new career-high ranking, as she’d jump up to about No. 92 in the live rankings – five spots above her best previous ranking.
She should be poised for success at a tournament like this as well. She has an improved first serve that can take advantage of the thinner air to be even more potent than it is elsewhere. Ad her solidity and higher-margin style means she shouldn’t sail too many balls and give her opponents free points.
The former world No. 65 hasn’t had too hot of a start to her season either. She’s yet to win more than one match at any tournament she’s played to this point. Also, a lot of her wins have come against players who are as out of form as she is.
She also seemed to have a tough time adapting to the extreme altitude of the Colombian capital.
Taking on Valentina Mediorreal Arias, Rakhimova hit an abnormal number of double faults. This is something that has been somewhat of a regularity among many players to start the week. Although Zarazua is not one of them, it could hurt Rakhimova if she continues to miss second serves.
Even worse, he doesn’t have that raw power to at least finish points with winners when she finds her range hitting through the thinner air.
If she’s not careful, Zarazua will be able to prolong those baseline exchanges and wait for the Rakhimova forehand to break down.
This will be the first meeting between the two. It will be interesting to see which of the two players will be able to impose their style. Can Rakhimova use her combination of decent pace and topspin on the forehand to control play?
Or will we see her struggle to keep the ball in the court again and Zarazua’s stability propel her to victory?
The elo ratings in this contest give Zarazua the slightest of leads on clay courts.
