Josh Ingram is here to look at this Wolves vs Leicester City prediction betting preview ahead of the weekend’s action. Wolves find themselves in the unlikely position of being the most in-form team in the Premier League across the last six games. Vitor Pereira has them purring.

Leicester are the polar opposite. The mood around the club is bleak. Ruud van Nistelrooy will not be the manager next season, and he doesn’t deserve to be; he hasn’t shown anything to warrant him being capable to lead a promotion push. Wolves will be chomping at the bit to get their sixth win on the spin this weekend and are expected to do so while keeping the back door shut.

Wolves vs Leicester Prediction: Wolves to make it six in a row

England, Premier League, Saturday, April 26th, 15:00 (UK)

Wolves have won five in a row and are unbeaten in six. Vitor Pereira hasn’t just steered them to safety. He has them marching up the table to maybe even reel in the teams sitting at midtable. Considering the mess he inherited, it’s a testament to how well the Portuguese manager has done. When he took charge, Wolves were 19th, and they are now 17 points clear of the drop. The additions made in January helped, but this is down to a manager improving the way his players play. There is no reason why they can’t keep this win streak going by beating Leicester.

Leicester were relegated last week by the soon-to-be champions. They’ve fell into unwanted trends these past few months, one of which is losing to nil. The Liverpool defeat was their 15th loss to nil of the campaign before the Brighton away game. They went on an eight-game loss-to-nil streak. They have been reaching levels of being so poor under Ruud van Nistelrooy that they are probably now the worst team in the league despite the Saints being below them. Only once have they failed to score more times than was in the 2001/02 campaign (19).

The recent contribution across the Wolves ranks has been welcome from other players to take the load off of Matheus Cunha. Matheus Cunha scored 14 goals and assisted a further four, making him one of just 11 players who have made 18 or more goal contributions in the Premier League this season. The Brazilian was one of the three players to find the net versus Leicester last time out. Others have chipped in, particularly Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Norwegian has tallied 12 goals and two assists in 26.5 90 minutes. It’s an impressive return for a player in a team that was struggling under Gary O’Neil.

Leicester have shown little fight this season, especially under Ruud van Nistelrooy. They have shown no reason why they would now play more freely, having been relegated. It is a premise I’ve never believed in, and this is a team that has lost 16 out of their last 18 Premier League games.

The average time on the clock when the Wolves score their first goal in a Premier League fixture this season is 35:50, which is the fourth fastest across the league. This could be a factor once more this week, seeing Leicster’s awful first-half record. Leicester City haven’t been winning at half-time in 15/16 (94%) of their Premier League away fixtures this season. The Fox’s heads will drop, and Wolves will likely dominate most of the game and have the ability to run rampant. Leicester’s failure to find the net is one I wanted on the side, especially with how consistently bad they are in front of the goal.

Wolves vs Leicester City Team News: Wolves keeping crisis and incompetent Ruud opts for consistency

There are currently a litany of injuries in the Wolves squad. A few of these injuries were not serious issues. Such as Hee-Chan Hwang and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, who had slight knocks and could potentially be back on the squad for this clash. Just before kick-off at Old Trafford, Jose Sa went down injured, and Daniel Bentley performed well in the absence of the Portuguese shot-stoppers. Due to Sam Johnstone’s injury, they are light in the goalkeeping department for the next few weeks, with Jose Sa’s injury severity not being confirmed as of yet.

Leicester don’t have many issues to contend with. One notable person missing is Harry Winks, who has very publicly fallen out with the manager due to his travelling back and forth to Leicester. Whether or not the man in the dugout has options or not, he has not been keen to utilise them with rotation. Often opting for the same eleven that had been battered the week before. It’s a squad that needs lots of signings to be of Premier League quality, and it isn’t clear if they will come right back up.

Wolves possible starting lineup:
Sa; Bueno, Agbadou, Gomes; Semedo, J.Gomes, Andre, Ait Nouri; Munetsi, Cunha, Strand Larsen

Leicester City possible starting lineup:
Hermansen; Pereira, Faes, Coady, Thomas; Ndidi, Soumare, Reid, El Khannouss, Mavididi; Vardy

Match Stats: Records being broken week in week out

  • Leicester have kept just one clean sheet in the Premier League this season, and have conceded in each of their last 26 matches. It’s their longest run without a league clean sheet since a streak of 37 between February and December 1957.
  • Following a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture, Wolves are looking to complete their first league double over Leicester City since the 1957-58 campaign.
  • After beating Manchester United on Sunday, Wolves have now won five consecutive top-flight matches for the first time since 1920.
