After a tremendously gripping group stage, AFCON has reached the knockouts, and with that, our expert Nathan Joyes is on hand with his Angola vs Namibia prediction, tips and best bets preview.
The Antelopes are yet to be beaten and having topped Group D, are sure to be in high spirits before facing Namibia.

Ivory Coast, AFCON, Saturday, January 27th, 17:00 (UK)
It’s safe to say not many, if any in fact, fancied Angola to top Group D. With Algeria, one of the tournament favourites expected to dominate, they did the total opposite and fell to an early exit.
With the Algerians bottling it, the Antelopes didn’t need a second invitation and achieved first place without losing a single match.
Their opening match draw against the Algerians set the tone, following it up with a 3-2 victory over Mauritania. Angola then faced Burkina Faso in their final group game and once again collected all three points with a 2-0 victory.
Their impressive run of form began before the tournament kicked off, and the Antelopes now haven’t tasted defeat in ten matches since a friendly loss against Iran back in September 2023.
Their next opponents, Namibia, qualified after their impressive victory over Tunisia. However, a 4-0 defeat against South Africa was concerning before signing off the group with a 0-0 stalemate vs Mali.
With a lack of goals within the Namibian camp, it only makes sense to back a team that continues to flourish in this tournament. Priced at odds against, Angola looks to be a strong selection to make it to the quarter-finals.
As mentioned above, Namibia haven’t scored since their opening win against Tunisia, who were another shock exit from the competition in last place.
However, one shot on target vs Mali and South Africa will be concerning for their supporters, whose progress appears to have only gone backwards since their opening match. If this theme continues, it’ll only be a matter of time before Angola breaks the deadlock.
Although Angola conceded two goals against Mauritania, they put in a much more professional performance against Burkina Faso.
Restricting them to plenty of long-range efforts and generally frustrating them throughout the 90 minutes, Burkina Faso only had three shots on target. Angola defended well to keep the clean sheet and deserved it.
With so much at stake, this should be a close game but one in which Angola are likely to edge it. Namibia haven’t scored since round one and that might not change here.
To add to the selection, their last two head-to-heads both finished 0-0.
Angola has shown throughout the group stage that they are capable of scoring goals, and although we’re not expecting them to run riot against Namibia, our last tip comes at a generous price.
As we witnessed vs Burkina Faso, Angola were ruthless. After taking the lead in the first half, they allowed their opponents more time on the ball to press and take chances before looking to hit them on the counterattack.
This approach worked, and as a result, they secured the victory in stoppage time with a second goal. If Angola scores early, this match may play out exactly as we witnessed in their last match.
Namibia has lacked a cutting edge in front of goal throughout the group stage and perhaps is a little fortunate to have made it through to the knockouts.
With so much at stake, a goal or two for Angola should be enough to see them through to the quarter-finals without too many issues.

With no fresh injury concerns to note from either side, it’s best to focus on Angola’s forwards. Both Gelson Dala and Mabululu have scored two goals each and are clearly the two players the Antelopes are relying on to carry them deeper into the latter rounds.
Veteran Mabululu might be 34, but he’s Angola’s main penalty taker, so keep an eye on the goalscorers market if you’re looking to add some value to your tips. Gelson Dala is his apprentice at 27, but the Al-Wakra striker already has five in 12 league appearances in Qatar.
