Scott Thornton three best bets in Europe’s top five leagues for this weekend all come in Serie A.

First up, we have Roma vs Fiorentina on Sunday. Claudio Ranieri could steer his team in to the Champions League if they finish the season strongly, so he’ll be hoping they can take advantage of Fiorentina’s tired legs. Later that day, Bologna hosts Juventus in what should be an intriguing match. On Monday night, we look ahead to Genoa vs Milan.

  • Roma vs Fiorentina: Under 24.5 Shots In The Match
  • Bologna vs Juventus: Over 2.5 Tackles For Manuel Locatelli
  • Genoa vs Milan: Over 1.5 Fouls For Brooke Norton-Cuffy

Acca odds: 7.30

Roma vs Fiorentina: Shot-Shy Roma

Italy, Serie A, Sunday, 4th May, 17:00 (UK)

Claudio Ranieri’s return to Roma has been a triumphant one. They are unbeaten in their last 18 league games and are still in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League despite a disastrous first half of the season under Daniele De Rossi and Ivan Juric.

Fiorentina are 8th but just a point behind Roma and three points off 4th in a congested Serie A table. They will have one eye on the second leg of their Conference League semi-final against Real Betis, so this is a great opportunity for the home side to pull clear.

Shots have been lacking in Roma’s recent home games. There have been 24 or less in seven of the last eight, so that’s exactly what we’re backing here. Those matches have seen an average of 21.5 attempts. There were just 14 shots in their most recent home games against Verona.

La Viola need the points, but European success is the priority. They will want to leave plenty in the tank for the Betis clash. Therefore, unders shots looks a solid bet. Moreover, their last 10 league games have seen just 19.3 attempts on average.

  • Selection: Under 24.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.90
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Bologna vs Juventus: Locatelli is Thriving Under Tudor

Italy, Serie A, Sunday, 4th May, 19:45 (UK)

Bologna looked doomed to fail when Thiago Motta left for Turin last summer. However, Vincenzo Italiano has done an excellent job. They come into this clash just one point behind Juventus. This is a crucial game in the race to qualify for Europe’s elite club competition.

Juventus climbed into the top four by beating Monza last weekend. Igor Tudor has done reasonably well since coming in as interim boss, and guiding the club he played for into the Champions League would be viewed as a success. He has lost just one of his five matches in charge.

With so much on the line, this match should be fiery with plenty of tackles. Tudor’s Juve have been pressing from the front, racking up the tackles in the process. They have made an average of 18 tackles per game under the new manager.

Bologna are the third most-tackled team in the league, forcing an average of 16.85 per game. Manuel Locatelli should be right in the firing line as a result. The midfielder has made three tackles or more in all five of his matches under Tudor.

  • Selection: Over 2.5 Tackles For Manuel Locatelli (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 2.10
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Genoa vs Milan: A Position Change Sparks Value

Italy, Serie A, Monday, 5th May, 20:00 (UK)

Genoa have very little to play for in the final weeks of the season. They are safe from relegation, 14 points clear of 18th-place Venezia. Patrick Viera’s side have failed to score in their last three matches. There is pressure on the Frenchman, so improvement is needed in the remaining matches.

Milan have had struggles of their own this season. They would need a miraculous set of results to qualify for the Champions League. The decision to replace Stefano Pioli after the previous campaign hasn’t paid off, with the club having two different managers this season.

Genoa’s average of 12.82 fouls per game is marginally above the overall league average. Despite the ordinary data, we are tipping Brooke Norton-Cuffy to make at least one foul here. The right-midfielder has been utilised at right-back in the last two games and made a foul on both occasions.

Alessio Zerbin, who played right-back against Milan in their last game, made three fouls. When the Rossoneri faced Genoa earlier in the season, Alessandro Vogliacco started in this position and made two fouls.

  • Selection: Over 1.5 Fouls For Brooke Norton-Cuffy (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10
