Bayern Munich vs PSG Bet Builder Tips: Wednesday, March, 8th

If one thing is nailed on in Germany on Wednesday night, it’s that we’re in for a treat – to accompany, we’ve provided Bayern vs PSG bet builder tips here at bettingexpert. Two of Europe’s leading lights in terms of playing staff and stature of the clubs, both fielding a side in an attempt to enter the business stages of UEFA’s flagship European domestic competition.

Bayern Munich vs PSG Preview

Champions League Round of 16, Wednesday, March, 8th, 20:00 (UK)

The Round of 16 is a stage that has produced memorable moments by the dozen in years gone by, with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain often at the forefront of said spectacles. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Joshua Kimmich, to name just three, will all be expecting progression, at the very least, from their respective ensembles.

It’s set up to be a cracker following the 0-1 away win by the Germans in the first leg. Former PSG youngster, Kingsley Coman, was the difference in Paris – his strike in the 53rd minute was enough to separate the sides. Following another flash point of the tie, Bayern will be without Benjamin Pavard after his 92nd-minute second yellow card.

With the two European powerhouses matched fairly evenly with the return of Kylian Mbappé from the start on Wednesday, how do you approach such a fixture from a betting perspective? Although Bayern boasts enough to edge the result on the night for me, their current lead represents a concern in backing the 1X2 markets. A draw is enough for the Germans, so my focus will lay elsewhere.

Bayern Munich vs PSG Stats & Facts

  • Bayern Munich (18) had double the number of shots as PSG in the first leg despite the home advantage.
  • Kylian Mbappé had a one-on-one saved and scored two disallowed goals after entering the field in the first leg.
  • Jamal Musiala, when he was 17, became the youngest English Champions League goalscorer ever with his goal against Lazio in 2021.
  • Paris Saint Germain still chases that elusive Champions League title. Bayern? They’ve won it six times.

Bayern Munich vs PSG Bet Builder

Another guarantee we have on our hands for Wednesday night is the drama that is set to unfold. Whether that’s a team hunting down a deficit or eleven men gritting their collective teeth and seeing a result over the line – tempers will flare. Some stepping over the white line in Munich are no strangers to the referee’s book. They know full well how and when to deploy the dark arts at the highest level when the time comes.

First and foremost in the bet builder, cards represent the first angle into the fixture—namely, cautions of the French variety. Looking back over the last five seasons with a similar crop of players to what we see now, PSG’s Champions League exits make for interesting reading.

In 2017/18, PSG fell to defeat (2-5) as Paris hosted a second-leg quarter-final tie against Real Madrid. Both Marquinhos and Marco Veratti – two players still representing PSG, picked up a yellow card in the second half of the game as they were heading out of the competition. The following year, it was Manchester United’s turn to pip the Parisians to a semi-final berth with the help of away goal rule – something that has since been scrapped. Marquinhos, again, and Leandro Paredes, now on loan at Juventus, picked up second-half yellow cards as the clock ran down.

Fast forward to 2019/20, and we have another quarter-final. This time, it’s Borussia Dortmund to the tune of five second-half yellow cards as PSG – three coming in the 90th minute for an ‘argument’ and a Mbappé caution a few minutes later for time waiting.

See the pattern? In the previous two seasons, three second-half yellows and a red for good measure was 2020/21’s offering, whilst last season served up three yellow cards after the half-time break against Real Madrid in the Round of 16.

So, in short, over 1.5 PSG cards in the second half is worth hanging your hat on at 1.83. I’ll be taking that as a single in the hope their ratty nature comes to the fore once again under the supervision of Italy’s Daniele Orsato in the middle.

In addition to cards and following his impact in the first leg off the bench, let’s focus on Kylian Mbappé. The game changed when he entered the field – Bayern and Julian Nagelsmann were concerned, and that Munich backline was petrified. With Neymar ruled out for the season with an ankle injury, that inadvertently places more focus on Mbappé and Messi to produce the goods.

I will be amazed if PSG’s star boy doesn’t turn up and put in a memorable performance. It may not be enough to win the tie, but the 3+ Kylian Mbappé shots to get the bet builder to a sizable 2.60 is one look at.

In the first leg, during Mbappé’s 33 minutes on the pitch, he recorded one official shot and had a goal chalked off by VAR and another ruled out by the linesman’s flag. Both decisions were spot on, though that gives a clearer picture of the impact imposed by the young Frenchman.

Adding a Shot on Target serves up a 3.00 – I wouldn’t put anyone off that, either.

  • Kylian Mbappé 3+ Shots
  • PSG Over 1.5 Second-Half Cards

Bet Builder odds: 2.60
