Saturday evening brings the most prestigious fixture in the Bundesliga calendar with Der Klassiker. Unlike many previous seasons, there are meaningful title race implications for this match, making it a good time to take a look at some Bayern vs Dortmund Bet Builder tips.
After replacing Julian Nagelsmann during the international break, Thomas Tuchel’s first match as Bayern manager comes against his former team with massive stakes.
In this article:
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, April 1st, 17:30 (UK)
Dortmund have a one-point lead over Bayern at the top of the Bundesliga thanks to a 6-1 win against Köln before the break. Tuchel has been appointed to try and extend Bayern’s streak of 10 consecutive league titles after a difficult post-World Cup spell under Nagelsmann. FC Hollywood have won just five of their last 10 league matches, leaving the door ajar for Dortmund as they pursue their first Bundesliga crown since the Jürgen Klopp era.
BVB are Europe’s form team in 2023. Edin Terzić has seen his side claim nine victories from 10 Bundesliga matches. The only time they dropped points was with a 2-2 draw against a much-improved Schalke team days after being knocked out of the Champions League. The attack has been potent, scoring 30 in that 10-match spell.
Bayern are hoping Tuchel brings a new manager bounce, but they also have history on their side in this fixture. They have won eight straight league matches against Dortmund at the Allianz Arena.
Injuries are a factor for the hosts here, however. Lucas Hernandez and Manuel Neuer are long-term absentees. Eric Choupo-Moting is a doubt, while Jamal Musiala missed Germany’s matches due to a thigh issue and Leon Goretzka left the game against Belgium with a knock in the first half.
For Dortmund, Gregor Kobel is fit to start in goal, and Emre Can returns from suspension. Julian Brandt should be available. Youssoufa Moukoko and Mateu Morey remain out, and Karim Adeyemi is doubtful after a setback.
Despite their contrasting form, the underlying metrics for these two teams are pretty similar since the midseason hiatus. Both have their weaknesses defensively, but the two attacks are extremely productive. Bayern have scored 39 goals in 12 home league matches this term, while Dortmund have scored over 1.5 goals in six of their last eight road fixtures across all competitions.
This fixture has generally been very high scoring. Over 3.5 has landed in each of the last five meetings. Since a 1-0 Dortmund win at Signal Iduna Park in November 2016, just Der Klassikers have finished with under 2.5 goals.
The line is set at 3.5 for Saturday’s match. Tuchel is naturally cautious, though, and Dortmund have had some low-scoring fixtures of late. Taking the over at 2.5 is a better bet to get the ball rolling on this Bet Builder.
Aside from a few heavy Bayern wins towards the end of the 2010s, both teams usually score when these sides face off.
Turning to player markets, Jude Bellingham to have over 0.5 shots seems like a good wager here. The England international is the driving force of this Dortmund team and averages the highest number of shots per game of any player in their squad. He didn’t have a shot against Köln last time out but has taken at least one shot in every other Bundesliga fixture this calendar year. Bayern have conceded 44 shots over their last four matches.
Another Dortmund midfielder provides some value for the final leg of this wager. Emre Can has just returned from suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards, and received a booking when these teams last met. The former Liverpool man has been booked in his last three matches against Bayern. Averaging 2.3 tackles per match, he is responsible for breaking up play and could receive a yellow for accumulation of fouls or stopping a break.
