We have Benfica vs Brugge bet builder tips ahead of what looks to be a tall order for Brugge. Benfica could prove to be dark horses for this year’s Champions League.
They haven’t won this competition in over 60 years but if they can get secure safe passage here they have every chance. They face a Brugge side that have struggled domestically in 2023.

Champions League, Tuesday, March 7th, 20:00 (UK)
Brugge are teetering on the edge of elimination from the Champions League. Turning the tie around after they were beaten 2-0 at home will take a monumental effort.
The pressure on Scott Parker has been for a couple of months and a hammering on Tuesday night could see him depart the club. Brugge have won just two matches under the Englishman and he has publicly admitted he could be axed ahead of this clash. Brugge are currently 21 points off the pace in the Belgian league.
Benfica have performed remarkably well in the Champions League. They topped a group that included PSG and Juventus. There are very few standout teams in this year’s competition so the Portuguese side will be dreaming of making it to the final.
Roger Schmidt’s side have a commanding lead in their domestic league and have made great progress this season. They finished 17 points behind Porto last season but they have looked a much more accomplished outfit this season.
Enzo Fernandez’s January exit left question marks surrounding their midfield but they have won five of their six matches since. The only defeat came via a penalty shootout in the domestic cup. Benfica were also reduced to 10 men after 30 minutes in that game.
Schmidt’s side have been electric at home this season. They have won 16 of their 18 matches in all competitions in front of their own fans. They are conceding an average of 0.78 goals per game and scoring 2.98 over that period.
Under Scott Parker, Brugge are creating 0.36 fewer goals per game than their opponent. His only away win as manager of Brugge came against relegation candidates, Zulte Waregem. Benfica are a definite step up in class in terms of opposition and the home side could pile on the misery here.
Benfica are averaging 5.71 goal kicks per game in this competition despite facing some of the giants of club football in the groups. The Portuguese side had two goal kicks in the first leg of this tie.
Brugge know they need goals but seemingly lack the quality to hurt Benfica. They took on Benfica’s domestic rivals, Porto in the group stages and only managed to force three goal kicks at the Estadio do Dragao.
There were 33 tackles in the first leg. There should be an increased intensity in this one with Brugge looking to win the ball back quickly and make a dent in the deficit. Benfica’s matches in the Champions League from the group stages onwards are averaging 40 tackles per game. Brugge’s matches in this competition are averaging 32.71 tackles per game and this jumps to 34.67 in their away matches.
