Runaway league leaders Botafogo welcome Bahia to Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, looking to maintain their 100% winning streak at home.
Kicking off at 20:00, Botafogo will have the opportunity to either keep or maintain their 11-point lead at the top of Serie A.
Bet Builder odds: 4.40
Brazil, Serie A, Sunday 27th August,20:00 (UK)
Odds via bet365 as at 18:00, 23rd August 2023. Odds may now differ.
Even without their star talisman, Tiquinho Soares, Botafogo has continued to show that they are capable of steering the ship while he recovers.
Having fallen a goal behind against Internacional when last at home, Botafogo rallied extremely well in the second half to win 3-1. It was arguably their best display of the season. A draw away to Sao Paulo, who has one of the best records in the league, was not to be sniffed at, either.
In fact, it kept them unbeaten in their last 17 matches. That and a 100% winning record at home in Serie A suggest this is the perfect start to the bet builder. Botafogo will eventually fall short at home, but it shouldn’t be against Bahia – who haven’t won on the road in 11 matches.
With Tiquinho Soares on the sidelines, Botafogo must turn to other forwards to keep their momentum. They snapped up Diego Costa on a free transfer, who blew away a few cobwebs with his cameo appearance against Sao Paulo last week.
However, it’s their tricky, hard-to-predict winger Victor Sa who catches the eye. Always busy, Sa was the one who scored the equaliser against Internacional and was at the heart of the majority of attacking play.
Since returning from injury in July, he’s been a prominent player under Bruno Lage, and his pace should create plenty of space on Sunday to test Marcos Felipe’s fingertips – although Botafogo will be hoping he can add another to his name.
Although odds-on, there’s still plenty of juice in his price at home and with no Tiquinho Soares to steal the show. Victor Sa can hopefully hit the target and keep the bet builder going.
Whether Victor Sa finds the back of the net is a question I can’t 100% answer, but what I do know is how dominant Botafogo are at home. Having won all of their Serie A matches, they’ve taken the game to whoever comes to their backyard.
If Botafogo are frustrated or fall a goal behind, be sure to know that this leg of the bet builder will be a given. Having fallen behind against Inter, Botafogo fired 16 shots at Rochet’s goal. When going a goal down against Guarani in the Sudamericana, they peppered 19 shots at the Paraguayan net.
In fact, this bet has only failed twice at home all season. Once when Botafogo comfortably beat Bragantino 2-0, and the other in the Copa do Brasil with a rotated side.
Expect Botafogo to be on the front foot from the first whistle, and even if they do go a goal up early on, they won’t rest until they’ve established a two-goal lead.
