Matthew O’Regan has readied his Brighton vs Everton prediction preview, with The Toffees making the long journey south to face the Seagulls. The AMEX has been happy hunting for Everton in recent weeks, getting a smash-and-grab 1-1 draw last season, before a shock 1-5 win the year before. The sides have met this season already, with Brighton running out 0-3 winners in Fabian Hurzerlers first game in charge.
England, Premier League, Saturday, January 25th, 15:00 (UK)
A 0-4 FA Cup triumph at Norwich saw Brighton win their first game in eight, having drawn six of these. A midweek Premier League 0-2 win over Ipswich followed, with Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter getting on the scoresheet. They then won their third away game in a week, putting on a clinic at Old Trafford, winning 1-3 thanks to goals from Mitoma, Yankuba Minteh and Rutter.
Albion are now ninth in the league, four points off fifth place Manchester City and are now seven unbeaten, with only Liverpool and Arsenal losing more games than them. The main problem for Fabian Hurzerler’s side has been converting draws to wins, drawing ten of their 22 games. Draws with relegation threatened Southampton, Leicester, Wolves and Ipswich already this season has threatened to derail their European push, so they will be hoping to finally break their curse against the lower sides.
While injuries have plagued The Seagulls this season, they are slowly getting players back to full fitness, with the use of quick, direct wingers allowing Brighton to implement a quick, direct counter-attacking style against Manchester United, while also helping to break down a low-block at Ipswich and Norwich.
Minteh and Mitoma assisted each other’s goals in the win at Old Trafford on Sunday, demonstrating their fine relationship they have seemed to develop in recent weeks. Minteh, signed from Newcastle in the summer has been unlucky with injuries since joining the South-Coast club but has now started seven Premier League games, registering three goals and two assists. The Gambian is rapid and direct with a keen eye for goal, scoring 0.62 goals per 90 for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie this last season.
Everton sacked manager Sean Dyche after stagnating performances. David Moyes’ is now back in the Goodison Park dugout, 12 years after his last game in charge. The 61-year-old lost 1-0 to Aston Villa in his opening game, before beating Tottenham 3-2 after going 3-0 up at half time. The Toffees have struggled away from home, picking up just seven points and conceding 15 goals. Away at a Brighton side who have lost just once at home this season, they may struggle to keep a clean sheet – with Minteh at the heart of the Brighton attack.

Despite a huge summer outlay, new manager Fabian Hurzeler has yet to decide his best team, due to the amount of poor injury luck he has had. The return of Danny Welbeck has helped their attack in recent weeks and he is expected to play a prominent part once more on Saturday.
Still, Brajan Gruda, Evan Ferguson, Ferdi Kadioglu, Igor, Jack Hinshelwood, James Milner, Matt O’Riley and Mats Wieffer are set to miss out through injury.
Everton also have a big injury list. Armando Broja, Dwight McNeil, James Garner, Seamus Coleman, Tim Iroegbunam and Youssef Chermiti are believed to be absent.
Brighton possible starting lineup:
Verbruggen; Veltman, Dunk, Van Hecke, Estupinan; Ayari, Baleba; Minteh, Pedro, Mitoma; Welbeck
Everton possible starting lineup:
Pickford; Young, Branthwaite, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Mangala, Gueye, Doucoure; Lindstrom, Calvert-Lewin, Ndiaye.
