Borussia Dortmund were one game away from winning the title last season, but the dream fell apart on the final day of the season. They’ve dusted themselves and are ready to go again this season. They have four points having been held by Bochum last weekend, and will be looking to bounce back here.
Heidenheim are a newly-promoted side that have failed to pick up any points so far. They succumbed to a late defeat against Hoffenheim last weekend but have shown plenty of fighting spirit. Frank Schmidt’s side have attacked with real intent, and they will look to take the game to Dortmund when possible.
Dortmund have conceded 20 and 14 shots in their Bundesliga matches so far. They have afforded their opponents plenty of opportunities, and this is cause for concern for Edin Terzic. Despite slugging it out at the top of the league last season, Dortmund conceded 12.06 shots per game on average.
Heidenheim had 20 shots last weekend and 14 when they travelled to Wolfsburg on the opening day. Both of those are well above the required amount for this bet to land.
Germany, Bundesliga, Saturday, September 2nd, 14:30 (UK)
Freiburg beat Hoffenheim on the opening weekend in a thrilling encounter. They fell two goals behind but showed just how dangerous they can be going forward as they chased the game. Pellegrino Matarazzo will have been relieved when his side scored a dramatic late winner against Heidenheim to secure the win last weekend.
Wolfsburg have made a strong start to the season after missing out on European football last season. They’ve secured three consecutive wins, including the DFB Pokal win before the start of the Bundesliga season. However, Die Wolfe lost both matches against Hoffenheim last season.
Hoffenheim’s two league matches so far have seen plenty of shots. There has been an average of 39 per game, the 2nd highest in the German top flight. Their home matches last season saw an average of 27.65 shots per game. This was the second most in the league.
Wolfsburg’s league opener saw 32 shots. There were just 22 in their win last weekend, but Koln’s matches ranked as the 3rd lowest in the division for shots last season. Wolfsburg’s trip to Hoffenheim last season saw 28 shots.

Like Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen also have a 100% record after two matches. They made a disastrous start to last season before Xabi Alonso was appointed. The former Bayern Munich midfielder has made a huge impression, earning the club many plaudits for the way his team plays. They’ve secured wins over RB Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach already this season.
They take on a Darmstadt side that are widely tipped for relegation. They were promoted from the second tier last season and have been poor in their early matches. They lost 4-1 to a Union Berlin side that was reduced to ten men after 21 minutes last weekend. They were also eliminated from the DFB pokal by FC Homburg, a side that plays in a regional division.
Leverkusen were hugely impressive last weekend. They had 24 shots, 11 of which found the target and finished the game with an xG of 2.74. They are strong favourites for this one, so there should be a relentless assault on the Darmstadt goal.
Darmstadt conceded 13 shots last weekend despite having a man advantage for most of the match. They look set to be the Bundesliga’s whipping boys, and squaring off against a rampant Leverkusen could get ugly.
