I’ve got a Carabao Cup final bet builder at odds of 12.00 for Sunday’s match. Chelsea take on Liverpool at Wembley after six years of dominance from the Manchester sides. Chelsea last lifted this trophy back in 2015 under manager Jose Mourinho. Liverpool’s last success was a decade ago under Kenny Dalglish. The Reds will reclaim the honour of being the club with the most EFL Cup wins should they come out on top here. In this article:
Liverpool have been in inspired form in recent weeks. They’ve won 10 and drawn two of their 12 matches in all competitions since the start of the year. Those two draws came against Chelsea and Arsenal.
The Reds have had a fairly tricky route to the final. They’ve had three of their four ties against Premier League sides. The two-legged semi-final against Arsenal was the hardest of them all. They won 2-0 on aggregate after two goals from Diogo Jota in London.
Chelsea have had the tougher route to the final. The Blues have only played Premier League sides to get this far. They got past Aston Villa, Southampton and Brentford for that semi-final against Tottenham. They had the better of both matches, winning 3-0 on aggregate.
They’ve come out of their poor run of form and have now won six matches in a row in all competitions. Four of those were in various cup competitions. The issue has been goals. They haven’t scored more than twice in a match since the 5-1 win over National League side Chesterfield back in January.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have a fine record in semi-finals but Liverpool have often struggled after that. Liverpool don’t have a particularly good record at Wembley. The Reds have only won one of their last six visits to Wembley in all competitions. They’ve been taken to extra time on three occasions in various cup competitions and lost on penalties each time.
I expect this match will go down a similar route. I’m not expecting too many goals in the game and for this final to go beyond 90 minutes. That plays into Chelsea’s hands. The Blues are so strong defensively and have an excellent record in penalty shootouts. I can see another disappointing Wembley trip for Liverpool.

I’m backing a low-scoring match that will end all square. I can see things finishing 1-1 or 0-0 after 90 minutes before Chelsea get on top in extra time. Backing the Blues to lift the trophy means they can either win it via extra time or penalties.
