Casio and Renault search traffic goes Waka Waka after Shakira diss track drops

Despite retiring from professional football last season, Gerard Pique’s on the pitch career has continued to flourish through his Kings League which created a new buzz in the football world. One of the song’s most outrageous lyrics sees Shakira allegedly takes aim at Pique’s current girlfriend Chia Marti where she tells Pique: “You swapped a Ferrari for a [Renault] Twingo, you swapped a Rolex for a Casio.” Shakira makes it clear that she believes Pique has downgraded and wants to ensure he and the world know about it.
The song has had a huge impact on the Tokyo-based watch brand Casio. According to research conducted by Better Collective, searches for “Casio Watch” have more than doubled since the release of the single. Within a 30 day time span searches for “Casio Watch” jumped from 10,391 to 23,091. Furthermore, by the 14th of January 2023 there have been 26,350 searches for “Casio Shakira”.
Shakira’s reference to the Renault Twingo, French car maker Renault has also seen searches for ‘Renault Twingo’ skyrocket over the last 30 days. On the 18th of December 2022 there were only 1,917 searches for ‘Renault Twingo’. By the 14th of January 2023 that had reached 13,696 searches showing the impact and the reach of Shakira’s big single.
In terms of related searches, the table below details the growth of related searches when it comes to the Pique and Shakira debacle. ‘Casio Shakira’ as a searched term grew by 59050%. ‘Shakira’ as a searched word had a 58550% growth, with Pique (31950%), ‘twingo car’ (22450%), Clara Chia’ (19300%) and ‘casio tank watch mens’ (16200%) all having a significant hike in searches.
