Ajax vs Benfica Best Bet

Before the first instalment of the tie in Lisbon, Ajax arrived on the back of six wins from six. Only Liverpool could match Erik Ten Haag’s squad come kick-off.
Half an hour into the fixture, fortunes had seemingly aligned once more. Yet, a Roman Yaremchuk 72nd-minute dampener put a halt to any triumphant proceedings.
Since that Wednesday night in Portugal, the shine appears to have slightly faded in Amsterdam. A 2-1 loss to Go Ahead Eagles followed – a match-up the Dutch giants had no business in losing.
Two 3-2 Eredivisie victories came next. Before the Go Ahead Eagles slump, Ajax had only conceded two or more goals once this season. Now, they’ve shipped multiple strikes in three consecutive matches in a division they dominate.
Highlighting his side’s current shape, Ten Haag admitted, “apparently we are in such a phase, but we have to get out of it quickly.”
An expectant full house under the lights of the Johan Cruyff Arena may be the required elixir. When at their full-throttle, attacking best, Ajax should cruise past this Benfica side.
However, with recent question marks around performance and the first-leg fight back, I expect Benfica to have their say. Ajax to progress with a win and BTTS comes in at an appealing 2.38.

Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid Best Bet

Atléti’s penchant for both scoring and conceding this term resembles a side far from Diego Simeone’s ideals. Madrid natives of an Atléti influence can now expect goals aplenty at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Atléti are in the number one percentile for over 2.5 goals with 19 from 28 games. Away from home, Atléti has landed over 2.5 goals for punters in 86% of matches in La Liga.
In Group B, three or more goals came in half of Atléti’s Champions League displays. The act of overseeing a low scoring game propped up by the dark arts appears to be wilting.
Interestingly, Atléti’s displays away from the capital domestically also have them top the standings for BTTS. It’s not helpful to harp on about seasons gone by, but this is a far stretch from the Simeone playbook.
The 11 of 14 games where both teams have scored, like the first leg, provides potential insight into the second. The xG totals of either side in the Madrid tie stand at; Atléti 1.42-0.41 United.
Joao Felix’s header was conjured from just 0.36 xG, implying that the hosts were somewhat wasteful in their business throughout the tie. On the contrary, Anthony Elanga’s late strike encouraged only 0.20 xG from United’s parsimonious 0.41 xG.
In a season of change at Old Trafford, like Atléti, goals increasingly rear their head. In the last 15 games, BTTS has made an appearance in 10.
Scorelines of 3-2 and 4-1 not only set the scene, but they could be a nod to what’s to come.
The 2.35 available for over 2.5 goals to be ticked off isn’t proportionate to what either side have recently produced. This isn’t a vintage Atleti. Likewise, Manchester United arrive with a leaky defence, whilst confidence increases in front of goal at the other end.
