It’s matchday two of the Champions League this week and new Chelsea boss, Graham Potter will want to kickstart his career in London with a win although Salzburg won’t be an easy task for the former Brighton coach. Here at bettingexpert News, we’ve constructed a bet builder for this interesting clash at Stamford Bridge.

This will be the first time Chelsea would have played since their opening round defeat in Croatia, Dinamo Zagreb won 1-0 on the night thanks to a solo goal from star man Mislav Orsic after just 13 minutes. The English club had 61% of the ball and managed 14 attempts but only three of those forced Dominik Livakovic into making saves in what was an underwhelming performance.
Austrian outfit, Salzburg hosted Italian giants AC Milan at the Red Bull Arena in a game that ended one a piece. Swiss international, Noah Okafor opened the scoring for the hosts but were quickly pegged back as Alexis Saelemaekers scored the final goal of the match in the 40th minute.
Thomas Tuchel lost his job after the loss in Croatia which was his 100th game in charge for the club, the pressure is certainly on for his successor as he’ll be wanting to avoid an unwanted record, Chelsea have never lost their opening two matches of a Champions League campaign.
The odds are well in favour of the hosts, as short as 1.30 to claim all three points with Matthias Jaissle’s side as high as 8.50 to claim an upset. Backing Chelsea just wouldn’t make much sense to me considering how poor they have been performing and the way Salzburg have started the season.
Starting with the hosts here in the shot market, Salzburg accumulated 17 attempts in their opening round draw with Milan. They play attacking football and will get forward whenever an opportunity arises. The Austrian club managed to hit the required mark in five of their six Champions League games last campaign so history is on our side here.
Chelsea conceded just six attempts at goal in Croatia last week in a very slow and lethargic 90 minutes, Zagreb lead the game for well over 75 minutes which forced them into defending for large parts of the remainder of the match.
Chelsea are no strangers to picking up cards this campaign. In all seven games this season, a Blues player has been cautioned after the halftime whistle. They received two yellow cards after the break in Croatia last week.
Again, just like Chelsea, the side from Austria enjoys a card or two. In seven of their eight league games, a Salzburg player has been cautioned after the break and even saw one against AC Milan.
My final selection for this bet builder is going against Chelsea. They may win this game but I can’t see them scoring four goals on the night. They have played 18 competitive matches since they scored more than three times, attacking wise they look lost for ideas and just don’t have that spark in front of goal.
Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling have scored just four goals between them all season whilst new signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hasn’t played 90 minutes since the start of April so goals could be hard to come by. As a collective the club have managed just eight goals all season in seven matches.
