It’s the penultimate round in South America this week as the Copa Libertadores group stage comes to an end. There’s still everything to play for in each of the eight groups. Libertad vs Atletico-MG Preview

Libertad will arrive here in a somewhat confident mood, they’ve already beaten Eduardo Coudet’s side in this competition and will need to do so again in order to reach the knockout stages.

The hosts have lost both games in Asuncion so far with a 1-2 scoreline in each despite accumulating 20 and 21 shots in those clashes respectively.

Atletico-MG will need to avoid defeat against the Paraguayan champions, they’ve recorded victories in their previous three group matches. They’ll be expected to have their work cut out defensively given Libertad have bagged in 14 consecutive home matches.

The Brazilian side are the favourites at a price of 2.10 with Libertad at the 3.60 mark. The goal line is set at 2.25 at Estadio Dr. Nicolás Léoz.

Oscar Cardozo scored the most goals in the Primera Division in 2023 at the age of 40, he’s also managed a further two in this competition so far. The forward has been a consistent scorer across his career and he may be the man his side turns to for a goal.

Libertad vs Atletico-MG Best Bet

I’m backing both teams to find the back of the net in this one. The home side’s impressive scoring streak here provides me with plenty of confidence whilst Atletico-MG have bagged in 11 of their previous 12 matches.

With the home side needing to earn maximum points, they may be forced into committing extra men forward in their attacks. Of course, they will become that bit more vulnerable at the back.

The price does appeal at 1.95, I expect this game to be a decent watch as the group stage comes to a close.

Fluminense vs Sporting Cristal Preview

Heading to Brazil next as Group D leaders, Fluminense, host Tiago Nunes’ Sporting Cristal side who are on a great run of form. They’ve recorded eight wins and four draws in their previous 12 affairs.

Fernando Diniz’s side are priced at considerable favourites at the Maracanã, best priced at 1.17 at the time of writing, something that is far from appealing. The Brazilians have recorded just a single victory in their last nine in all competitions. They are a force at home, there’s no doubting that, but the handicap seems a little steep here.

The hosts have played five home matches in the Brazilian top flight this campaign, this bet has returned a payout on each occasion with three wins and two refunds.

History is firmly on our side here too, Sporting Cristal haven’t lost by three or more goals since May 2021. That includes 15 games in this very competition.

Fluminense vs Sporting Cristal Best Bet

I’m backing the Peruvians here on the Asian Handicap. They may taste defeat but should make this clash competitive in Rio de Janeiro.

The Strongest, who sit bottom of the group went off at a very similar price back in April, they were dominated during the entirety of the 90 but limited Fluminense to a single goal.

Even if the visitors lose by two goals exactly, our stakes will be returned.

River Plate vs The Strongest Preview

There’s everything to play for in Group D, River Plate hosts the current Bolivian league leaders at Estadio Monumenta in Buenos Aires. Martin Demichelis’ side are huge favourites to record a hat trick of wins in front of the home fans.

River Plate lead the way in the Argentinian top flight by a healthy 10 points which has seen them win nine matches from 10 at home. They boast an 11-game win streak in all competitions when playing in the capital.

The Strongest have performed poorly in their two away trips in the group stages, they’ve lost 1-0 in both matches and have lost the shot count 45-8.

Given the hosts are as short as 1.05 to record a victory, finding a bet at a decent price with some value isn’t the easiest of tasks. The proposed selection has cashed in eight of the previous 11 matches in this very stadium as well as both away trips for the hosts.

River Plate have conceded just four times across their last 11 at home, they’ve scored four or less in each of those matches. A victory here will guarantee them a place in the knockout stages.

As mentioned previously, the Bolivians shouldn’t pose much of a threat in attack. They have the capabilities to keep themselves in matches but the quality between the sides is a mismatch.

The altitude levels in La Paz, where The Strongest are located gives them a huge advantage over foreign clubs, but, with the host’s impressive winning run, this clash should finish in only one outcome.
