Cruzeiro hosts Serie A’s league leaders Botafogo on Sunday evening as Bruno Lage looks to keep his side clear in first place. Top goalscorer Tiquinho Soares headlines the bet as the Botafogo man angles for a Brazilian national team call-up.
After the offering of football in England is over, this is the perfect time to sit down and catch up on the Brazilian top flight with kickoff at 20:00.

Botafogo’s Tiquinho Soares has been the star of the show, not only for Botafogo but also within Serie A. He leads the top goalscorer charts with 13 goals, amassing four assists to his name, too.
Botafogo chose to rest their talisman midweek in the Sudamericana against Guarani. However, having found themselves a goal down, he came on to help win the game with a last-minute penalty. In the 45 minutes, he managed three shots, two of which found the target.
He found the back of the net and two shots on target last time out in Serie A against Coritiba. It was the same story against Santos away from home the week before that. The 32-year-old is a monster. His physique makes him a threat in the air, and he uses his size to create space in the box for himself and regularly tests the opponents’ goalkeeper.
As Botafogo play with just one striker, everything goes through Tiquinho Soares, and over 1.5 shots on target is a must in this bet builder.
Last time out, Cruzeiro drew 3-3 with Athletico PR and finally showed more intent in front of goal. They’ve drawn a few blanks of late, often frustrated when falling behind. However, it looked to have finally clicked against Athletico PR, and they’ll be hoping to take that form into this encounter against Botafogo.
Cruzeiro often struggles to find the back of the net at home, but Botafogo doesn’t. In fact, you have to go back to their 1-0 away win against Palmeiras ten matches ago for this bet not to have landed. They scored four last time out against Coritiba in the league, and they’ve shown no signs of slowing down either.
Despite Cruzeiro struggling to score in front of their fans, Botafogo have conceded in their last four matches and errors at the back have started to creep in.
In order to top up this week’s bet builder, it seems pretty safe to add over seven match corners. Although this was the sole tip to let us down last week, both Cruzeiro and Botafogo utilise their wingers and wide play as much as possible.
If Cruzeiro falls behind, they know how to pile on the pressure, even if they have struggled in front of goal at times this season. There were 12 corners between Athletico PR and Cruzeiro last week, but at home, they have become very reliable in winning set pieces.
After falling behind against Goias, Cruzeiro won 13 corners in front of their own fans. Before that, there were 11 between them and Sao Paulo.
If Cruzeiro goes behind, their attacking play often comes from out wide. If Botafogo finds themselves chasing the game, their intensity to chase the game forces their opponents into errors, and corners come naturally to them. We saw that midweek against Guarani when Botafogo finished with 13 of their own.
