This weekend’s Bundesliga fixtures kick off at Signal Iduna Park on Friday night, meaning it’s a good time to take a look at Dortmund vs Leipzig bet builder tips. Amid a tight title race, it’s all to play for between 2nd and 4th under the lights.
These tips focus on a modern footballing rivalry between two clubs separated by just four points in the Bundesliga’s top four.

Germany, Bundesliga, Friday, March 3rd, 19:30 (UK)
It wasn’t the smoothest first half of the season for Dortmund but they have hit form at the right time. It’s now nine consecutive wins in all competitions and they’re level on points with league leaders Bayern Munich. Edin Terzić’s team have won five consecutive home league fixtures and are playing amongst the best football in Europe right now.
It’s a similar story for their opponents. After struggling on the road to start the season, Leipzig have not lost in nine away matches in all competitions. That includes emphatic wins over Shakhtar Donetsk, Wolfsburg and Schalke. The Red Bulls have won their last three against Dortmund, scoring nine goals in the process.
This fixture carries massive significance for both teams. Avoid defeat and Dortmund go top. A win will put Leipzig one point behind Dortmund and Bayern ahead of the latter’s trip to Stuttgart on Saturday. If Leipzig lose, they could be in 5th by Saturday evening.
These clubs carry a rivalry off the field due to distinctly contrasting ideologies. On the pitch, matches have often been entertaining, but have rarely had any impact on the title race due to Bayern’s sustained dominance. This encounter is different.
For Terzić and Rose, this is the biggest match of their season to date. Defeat for either team will put a meaningful dent in their title ambitions.
Goals are usually guaranteed when these teams meet. Both teams to score has been a solid pick over the years but the respective defensive records of late mean it’s not good value here. Instead, over 2 total goals is the way to kick off this bet builder. This has landed the last five times Dortmund have hosted this fixture, and in 73% of Leipzig’s Bundesliga matches.
Dortmund average the most corners per match in the Bundesliga at 10.4. There have also been 11 or more corners in the last four league meetings. While Terzić and Rose have tightened their teams up defensively, this still has the makings of an end-to-end match with at least a few corners for each team.
Next, we look at some of the player props. Donyell Malen hasn’t had the best of times since signing with Dortmund, but he is one player who can benefit if this match is as open as past fixtures suggest. Terzić’s attacking options are limited with Youssoufa Moukoko and Karim Adeyemi out.
Malen is in line for some sort of role, even if he has to come off the bench again. The Dutch forward was restricted to cameos against Hoffenheim and Freiburg, but still got a shot off in each of those matches. He has recorded at least one shot in each of his last seven Bundesliga appearances.
There are some tricky selection calls for Terzić after Dortmund were not at their best in the win over Hoffenheim. It is still hard to envisage the hosts losing this match, despite Leipzig’s strong head-to-head record and improvement on the road.
These sides share almost identical expected statistics since the league resumed, but Dortmund should at least be able to avoid defeat with home advantage.
