I’ve gone for a Wednesday Evening bet builder at odds of 13.00, as England Women play host to their Austrian equivalent and with this game acting as the curtain-raiser for this summer’s European Championships, the hosts will look to get off to the perfect start.

Especially as they managed to reach the semi-finals of the tournament’s previous edition and with the woman who masterminded their eventual downfall now installed as manager, Sarina Wiegman will be tasked to repeat her efforts of 2017.

Efforts that do not come in the shape of dumping England out of the competition but winning it outright and after leading previous hosts the Netherlands to glory five years ago, she will now look to earn overall success for her current employers.

Something that is certainly not outside the realm of possibility either and with England currently priced as second-favourites to win a first-ever European Championship, pre-tournament odds of 5.50 are not to be overlooked.

While those odds may only get shorter if the Lionesses get off to a perfect start on Wednesday and with their Austrian counterparts standing in their way of maximum points, they go up against a side that also reached the final four in 2017.

This means Sarina Wiegman and her squad of 23 players will be given something of a baptism of fire when it comes to getting this tournament underway and they will hope that an army of home support find themselves in good voice.

Then again, even if the crowd is not at full volume, England’s women do have an impressive unbeaten streak to fall back on and with no defeat since April 2021, it is fair to say that momentum has been cultivated before this year’s championships.

Momentum that was on show during England’s last outing at the end of June and with a 4-0 win being recorded against Switzerland in Zurich, it also meant a brace for Manchester United forward Alessia Russo.

A pair of goals that were also supplemented by Bethany England and the evergreen Jill Scott and with the latter having more than 150 international caps to her name, her experience is going to be crucial over the next few weeks.

Experience that sees England as clear favourites to win in midweek and although odds of 1.16 will do little to concern the bookmakers, our upcoming bet builder may just make them sweat by the time the final whistle is blown.

  • England have won each of their last six international outings.
  • In this run, they have scored 32 goals and conceded just twice.
  • While they are also unbeaten in each of their last 14 outings (W12, D2)
  • The last meeting between these two nations was back in November 2021, when England beat Austria 1-0 in a 2023 World Cup qualifier.

  • Jill Scott to score anytime
  • England to win both halftime and fulltime
  • Both teams to score

Bet Builder is available at 13.00 Odds.

Before Wednesday’s clash gets underway, I have put all my eggs in an England basket. Because not only have I backed them to win, but I also think that they win at the interval also. Add a Jill Scott goal as Austria at least get one for their troubles and this is my midweek bet builder.
