Scott Thornton brings you his first-ever European props acca tips which will cover Serie A and La Liga in their respective opening weekends.

In Italy, we start with the Milan clubs. Inter are in action against Genoa before the Rossoneri host Torino. On Sunday night, Roma head to Cagliari before Juventus vs Calcio Como rounds off the Serie A picks. We’ve focused on the big two in Spain with Valencia vs Barcelona and Mallorca vs Real Madrid.

Acca odds: 31.18

Genoa vs Inter Milan: The Nerazzurri to Rack up the Attempts

Italy, Serie A, Saturday, 17th August, 17:30 (UK)

Genoa were firmly in mid table last season. They will have been happy with their respectable finish, which was earned with a solid run towards the end. They have carried that form into their pre-season matches but Saturday’s opponents are a cut above.

Inter Milan won the league with ease last season. They have been developing nicely nuder Simone Inzaghi and they will fancy their chances of making it back-to-back Scudettos after a productive summer. They have brought in Mehdi Taremi to aid Lautaro Martinez in attack and they look set for more success.

Albero Giladrino will have his work cut out here. Genoa haven’t beaten Inter since 2018. In the 10 meetings since, they have lost nine and conceded an average of 2.8 goals per game. More importantly for this bet, Inter have had 15 shots or more in the last five meetings.

The Nerazzurri had the second most shots in the Italian top flight last season with 15.63 so over 14.5 looks doable here. This climbs to an average of 16.6 shots in their last 10 competitive matches.

  • Selection: Over 14.5 Shots For Inter Milan (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 10/10

AC Milan vs Torino: Milan on Top at the San Siro

Italy, Serie A, Saturday, 17th August, 19:45 (UK)

It’s been a busy summer for AC Milan. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is looking to instil a more attacking philosophy as sporting director and Paulo Fonseca is the man who has been drafted in to provide that. The team finished 2nd in Serie A last season but they were well off the pace set by their local rivals.

Torino finished 9th last season, just outside the European places. They have finished on 53 points in the previous two campaigns and will be hoping to make progress this time around.

The Rossoneri had an average of 14.79 shots per game last season, the third most in Serie A. That increased to 15.26 in their home matches, which is still below the line set by the bookmakers. However, they are aiming to show more attacking impetus under Fonseca.

Torino conceded 13.26 shots on average in their away matches in 23/24 but the stats against AC Milan are more promising. They succumbed to a 4-1 defeat in this fixture last season and allowed the Rossoneri to have 17 shots. Milan also managed 16 shots in the reverse fixture

  • Selection: Over 15.5 Shots For AC Milan (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Cagliari vs Roma: A Worrying Trend for De Rossi

Italy, Serie A, Sunday, 18th August, 19:45 (UK)

Cagliari were fortunate to remain in the top tier of Italian football. They finished just above the relegation zone after winning just one of their last five matches. Isolani will be hoping to avoid the agony of a relegation battle this time around.

Last season was a tumultuous one for Roma with the club opting to sack Jose Mourinho and bring in Daniele De Rossi. The former Roma captain has enjoyed his stint thus far and he will be confident coming into this campaign. The team secured qualification to the Europa League and have spent heavily in the window.

Cagliari had 12 shots when they were beaten 4-0 by Roma at the Stadio Olimpico back in February. They managed 16 shots in the reverse fixture so 12 looks doable in front of their home crowd once again.

Roma conceded 12.68 shots per game last season but the away numbers under De Rossi are a little more concerning. He has taken charge of nine Serie A games on the road and his team are conceding 19.33 shots on average. This bet has won in eight of those games.

  • Selection: Over 11.5 Shots For Cagliari (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.72
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Juventus vs Calcio Como: Motta Has a Tough Task

Italy, Serie A, Monday, 19th August, 19:45 (UK)

The summer has brought about wholesale changes at Juventus. Thiago Motta has taken the hot seat after guiding Bologna to the Champions League. His style of football is easy on the eye but it could take some time for him to implement it. Massimo Allegri favoured a defensive approach and wasn’t as keen on dominating possession so expect teething problems.

Como finished 2nd in Serie B last season so they will be targeting survival. Cesc Fabregas has done a wonderful job thus far so they will undoubtedly put up a fight. However, Raphael Varane’s injury in their Coppa Italia defeat to Sampdoria last weekend is a big blow.

The Old Lady had an average of 14.11 shots per game last season. This increase to 15.42 in their matches in Turin but that’s still well below the line set by bet365 here. In pre-season, Thiago Motta’s side have averaged just 8.33 shots in their matches against other clubs.

You’d expect Como to concede more shots now they are making the step up to Serie A but last season’s stats are promising. They conceded an average of 10.95 attempts in the league.

  • Selection: Under 18.5 Shots For Juventus (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10

Valencia vs Barcelona: Head-to-Heads Show Promise

Spain, La Liga, Saturday, 17th August, 20:30 (UK)

Valencia were 9th in the league last season but were some way off Real Betis, who took the final European place. It was a huge improvement on the 2022/23 season, which saw them narrowly avoid relegation.

Barcelona encouraged Xavi to commit to seeing out his contract only to replace him with Hansi Flick at the end of the season. The German, who won the treble with Bayern Munich, will be under immense pressure as the Catalans chase glory.

Shots were at a premium in Valencia matches last season. Their 38 league games saw 20.79 shots on average but their clashes with Barcelona didn’t follow this trend. There were 32 shots when these teams went toe-to-toe at the Camp Nou in April. There were 27 shots in the encounter at the Mestalla.

Last season, Barcelona’s matches saw the third most shots in La Liga with an average of 26.53. This drops to 25.79 if we only factor in the numbers from their away games but we should see plenty of goalmouth action in this opening game.

  • Selection: Over 25.5 Shots In The Match (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 7/10

Mallorca vs Real Madrid: Throw Numbers Set to Climb

Spain, La Liga, Sunday, 18th August, 20:30 (UK)

Mallorca were narrowly beaten by Real Madrid 1-0 on both occasions the teams met last season. The team finished 15th in the league but pre-season has been encouraging. Jagoba Arrasate’s team have won five of their six matches with the only defeat coming on penalties.

Real Madrid lifted the Super Cup by beating Atalanta midweek but there should be no tired legs at this early stage. Kylian Mbappe opened his account at Los Blancos by scoring their second goal in that fixture and the fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of seeing him in that famous white shirt once again.

In La Liga last season, Mallorca matches averaged 41.34 throws. That was just above the overall league average of 40.05.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s matches saw the third fewest throws in La Liga last season with an average of 34.05 but their clashes with Mallorca saw far more. Real Madrid’s trip to this stadium yielded 38 throws. There were a whopping 51 in the meeting at the Santiago Bernabeu.

  • Selection: Over 34.5 Throws In The Match (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 8/10
