Manchester United vs Everton Preview

Friday, January 6th, 20:00 (UK)

Manchester United take on Everton in the Friday night match. Pressure is building on Frank Lampard. Some reports suggest his team need a positive result here in order for him to keep his job.

United have won their four matches since the World Cup without conceding a goal. Ten Hag has had a few fires to put out this season but his team looks to be on the right track. However, the squad is still pretty thin so it will be interesting to see who plays in this cup tie.

Everton secured a memorable point at the Etihad before succumbing to a 4-1 defeat at home to Brighton. The Toffees have slumped into the bottom three. Things are looking ominous for the team that hasn’t been relegated since 1951.

Manchester United vs Everton Best Bet

Everton allow the fourth-highest amount of passes per defensive action in the Premier League. They will likely opt to let United have the ball in deeper areas to avoid leaving themselves open to a ball in behind.

Uncontested possession further up the pitch often means fewer throws. The league meeting between these sides this season saw just 33 throws.

There have been 39 throws or fewer in 10 of United’s 13 home matches in all competitions this season.

  • Selection: Under 39.5 Match Throws (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.90 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 8/10

Gillingham vs Leicester Preview

Saturday, January 7th, 12:30 (UK)

Gillingham beat Dagenham and Redbridge in the last round but that’s their only win in their last nine matches. The Gills are rooted to the bottom of League Two; five points of safety. The odds are firmly stacked against them this weekend.

Leicester had a rough start to the season and there were calls for Brendam Rodgers to be dismissed. An excellent run of form prior to the World Cup saw them climb up the table. A run of three defeats since the restart has seen them dragged to within just two points of the relegation zone.

Gillingham vs Leicester Best Bet

Gillingham needed a replay to get past Dagenham and Redbridge. They had 17 tackles in both matches. There aren’t any recent examples of them facing a similar opponent to refer to but they should get stuck in on Saturday. The home support will be right behind Gillingham as they bid to pull off an upset.

Leicester’s opponents in the Premier League this season are averaging 14.72 tackles per game. They should have the lion’s share of possession here and force their lower-league opponents into making even more tackles.

  • Selection: Over 15.5 Tackles For Gillingham
  • Best Odds: 1.90 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 5/10

Sheffield Wednesday vs Newcastle Preview

 Saturday, January 7th, 18:00 (UK)

Newcastle have enjoyed a dream start to their league campaign. The Magpies are challenging for a place in next season’s Champions League. However, winning the FA Cup and ending their 68-year wait for a trophy would top that.

Eddie Howe’s side have lost just one Premier League game this season. They will be strong favourites come kickoff, regardless of what eleven starts the game.

Wednesday have won their last three league games and are currently 2nd in League One. These sides were both in the Championship in 2017 but their trajectories have been vastly different.

Darren Moore’s side won’t roll over for the high-flying opponents. They have lost just once in their last 20 matches in all competitions. The Owls beat Cambridge 5-0 in their last match so confidence is definitely high.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Newcastle Best Bet

A big crowd is expected for Saturday’s clash and most will be urging Wednesday to attack. There is a gulf in class but the home side are capable of creating some chances of their own.

In Wednesday’s last five matches where they have been similarly priced to win (5.50 – 6.50), they are averaging 8.2 shots.

When playing away from home, Newcastle’s opponents this season are averaging 12.7 shots per game.

  • Selection: Over 6.5 Shots For Sheffield Wednesday (TRACKED BET)
  • Best Odds: 1.83 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 7/10

Liverpool vs Wolves Preview

 Saturday, January 7th, 20:00 (UK)

Liverpool welcome Wolves to Anfield on Saturday night. Klopp’s side were comprehensively beaten by Brentford in their last match. They will be looking to bounce back against a side who have just six wins in their last 20 competitive matches.

The league is the priority for both of these sides. Liverpool are battling to make it into the top four. While Wolves are battling for Premier League Survival. Lopetegui has taken charge of three Wolves matches and he will be reasonably happy with the results so far.

Liverpool won the FA Cup via a penalty shootout last season. They have been hit hard by injuries this season so it’s likely a number of young players will feature for the holders.

Liverpool vs Wolves Best Bet

Wolves’ opponents’ are averaging 18.4 tackles per game in all competitions this season. Their squad has a number of pacey, direct players that force the opposition to dive in.

Liverpool had 21 tackles the last time these sides met at Anfield. Klopp’s side also had 18 tackles in their only match since the World Cup at home. They are averaging 16 tackles per game this season and should make more against this Wolves’ side.

Manchester City vs Chelsea Preview

Sunday, January 8th, 16:30 (UK)

Chelsea’s woes continued on Thursday night as they were narrowly beaten by Man City. They face Pep Guardiola’s side again on Sunday. This time in the FA Cup. Graham Potter needs to turn his fortunes around quickly in order to quash the fan outrage. His predecessor, Thomas Tuchel, had a great record in cup competitions. He reached the FA Cup final twice in his two years in charge.

Man City expect to be fighting on all fronts every season. Going out of the cup at this early stage would be a huge disappointment. The Citizens weren’t at their best on Thursday night but they managed to restrict Chelsea to very few chances. They should deliver a more attacking display in front of their own fans.

Manchester City vs Chelsea Best Bet

Manchester City are accomplished in possession and very rarely play a stray pass. They are masters of laying siege to the opponents’ goal. This means that the ball very rarely goes out of play when they play.

City matches average 29.65 throws in the league this season. This is significantly fewer than Arsenal, whose matches see the second-fewest with 29.65. There were 33 throws when these teams met a few days. There have been 32 throws or fewer in the last four league meetings between these sides at the Etihad.

Oxford United vs Arsenal Preview

Monday, January 8th, 20:00 (UK)

Arsenal are five points clear at the top of the Premier League after 17 games. They drew 0-0 with Newcastle in their last game. Arteta’s men are prepared for a stern challenge from Man City in the second half of the season. The Spaniard would also love to long cup run to show his side are capable of fighting on all fonts.

Oxford are currently 15th in League One. They will need to be at their very best to cause any problems for Arsenal. The underdogs going through would surely be the upset of the round. However, they can take inspiration from Stevenage; who dumped Aston Villa out of the FA Cup.

Oxford United vs Arsenal Best Bet

The Gunners have been dominant in possession in the Premier League this season.  They are averaging 57.82% possession per game. Oxford are likely to maintain their shape and keep it tight through large period of the match; meaning we see fewer tackles in this one.
