Friday Night Acca Tips: March 17th

There is plenty of action in the UK and on the continent on Friday evening to get stuck into.

For Friday night’s acca, I have delved into Nottingham Forest’s clash with Newcastle, who look to get their Champions League crusade back on track. Forest’s home form is mid-table worthy but their lengthy injury list could cost them.

I have also dipped down into League One, where leaders Sheffield Wednesday host play-off hopefuls Bolton, and nipped across to Italy where a card merchant has taken my fancy.

The treble pays out at 7.32.

Forest vs Newcastle Preview

England, Premier League, Friday, March 17 20:00 (UK)

This weekend’s Premier League action commences at the City Ground where Nottingham Forest welcome Champions League-chasing Newcastle.

The Tricky Trees may sit four places above the drop zone but they are only two points clear of Bournemouth in 17th.

The hosts’ survival hopes hinge almost entirely on their home form, 77% of their 26 points were won at the City Ground.

Injuries hinder Steve Cooper massively here though, a familiar story of his season, he could be without as many as 10 players.

Without doubt, the most costly of which will be Brennan Johnson. The academy graduate is his side’s chief creator, topping their charts for direct goal contributions and is pivotal to how Forest play.

The hosts will give him every chance to feature here but without him, I struggle to see them getting anything out of the game.

Forest vs Newcastle Best Bet

A League Cup final defeat came amidst a run of five winless games, over which time Newcastle lost three.

In desperation to get their European chase back on track, Eddie Howe rang the changes for his side’s meeting with Wolves at the weekend and it did the trick.

Three points put the Magpies back in the driving seat for the UCL and I think they will follow it up with another victory in Nottinghamshire.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Bolton Preview

England, League One, Friday, March 17 19:45 (UK)

League leaders Sheffield Wednesday have the chance to lay a marker down to the rest of the third tier as they host Bolton on Friday evening.

Things are looking very rosy in Hillsborough. The Owls sit three points clear of 2nd placed Plymouth and five of 3rd placed Ipswich and have two games in hand on each of them.

Darren Moore has only seen his side lose three league games all season, and with only one suspension to worry about, it is easy to see why they are the clear favourites here. Dominic Iorfa is serving a one-match ban for his sending off at Portsmouth.

Bolton looked to be mounting an automatic promotion charge with five wins on the spin.

One win and three defeats over their last five league games have seen this flatline.

The Wanderers are now 11 points off the top two and three points clear of Wycombe in seventh.

Sheffield Wednesday v Bolton Best Bet

Three sides have scored more than Moore’s side, but no one has conceded fewer, and this is where his foundations to success lie.

Wednesday have conceded just 22 goals in 34 league games, an average of 0.65 per game.

The Owls have not lost since October, a run stretching back 22 games.

They have only lost once at home all season, winning their last seven on the spin, and I suspect they will make it eight here.

  • Selection: Sheffield Wednesday to Win
  • Best Odds: 1.72 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 5/10

Atalanta vs Empoli Preview

Italy, Serie A, Friday, March 16, 19:45 (UK)

Empoli head to Atalanta on Friday in the Italian top flight, two sides very much out of form.

The visitors are winless in seven, taking the fewest points (3) of any side in Serie A over that period.

It is relegation form that has them slipping towards the foot of the table,

Azzurri are still nine points clear of the dotted line, but at 7.50, the bookies do not fancy their chances of extending that gap this weekend.

The hosts have been equally poor, taking just four points from their last six matches, the fourth-worst haul in the form table.

In fairness to Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, their last three games have come against Napoli, Udinese and Milan, prior to that though, they were beaten by Lecce.

Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro card is an absolute cannon.

Never have I seen such a consistently cynical player, and with such consistency as well.

He has picked up six bookings this season, not particularly impressive until you consider the fact he has only featured for 859 minutes.

Oh, and he also has two red cards, a tally no player in the division can best, only Jose Mourinho has more.

Four cards in his last seven appearances, and a card per 90 average of 1.05 for the season, I wonder how long it will be until he is odds on.

A  football acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A  football acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create Premier League accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the football acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
