I’ve gone for a Wednesday evening bet builder at odds of 7.50, as France Women play host to Germany Women. With this being the second of two European Championship semi-finals in midweek, we will soon know who else will be going to Wembley on Sunday.
In this article:
Wednesday, July 27th, 20:00 (UK)
With France being priced at 3.50 to win the tournament outright and Germany 3.75 in the same market, there is little to choose between the two. Especially with the match odds for either nation to win on Wednesday being almost identical.
An indication of just how tight this encounter could be, as a legion of French and German supporters prepare to descend to Milton Keynes on Wednesday. A venue that the latter have already found success at during this tournament.
Because their previous trip to Stadium MK was one that saw them pick the final three of all nine group stage points on offer. Three points that came following a routine 3-0 win over their Finnish counterparts.
Then again, you could also say that there was an element of routine during their quarterfinal win over Austria. Routine that came in the shape of both Lina Magull and Alexandra Popp scoring on the international stage.
With Magull now on three goals for the tournament and Popp on four, either will still fancy their chances of being the top goalscorer and for those looking to back the latter, you can currently get odds of 4.50.
Of course, if the Germans are to get any joy on Wednesday, they must contend with an unforgiving French defence. One that managed to shut out the Netherlands in the last eight and in doing so, send home the previous winners of the European Championships.
That is not to say that the French had it all their own way last Saturday, as it needed an extra time winner from Chelsea’s Eve Perisset to advance and if the same outcome was to happen on Wednesday, it would offer odds of 13.00.
Odds that suggest that business will be completed in 90 minutes and now it is a case of seeing just who will advance to Sunday’s showpiece event. Will it be Martina Voss-Tecklenburg’s brand of ruthless efficiency or Corinne Diacre’s gallic flair that wins through?
That is the question that pundits and punters are asking before kickoff and with two powerhouses of the Women’s game being paired together, the answer to this footballing conundrum is not all that far away.
Before Wednesday’s clash gets underway, I have backed a German win, even if their run of clean sheets finally comes to an end. However, that will be of no concern to Alexandra Popp, as a fifth tournament goal, leads her and her teammates to Sunday’s final.
Bet Builder odds: 9.50
