After Harry Kane’s glittering Bundesliga debut against Werder Bremen, Mikael Silvestre spoke to us about this transfer and why he thinks it’s a good one.
In this article:
Harry Kane started his Bayern Munich career with a bang, bagging an assist and a goal in a 4-0 win over Werder Bremen.
Former Man Utd and Werder Bremen defender Mikael Silvestre spoke to us about Kane’s move from the Premier League and why he thinks this move will work out better for the English striker than staying at Tottenham.
Silvestre praised Kane for making the move, saying that he has joined a club that is on another level altogether. He also believes that Kane could have joined any top Champions League-competing team in Europe, but Bayern Munich is an institution.
“Harry Kane could have signed for any top teams in Europe. I think it’s a good move because he’ll either finish first or second in the Bundesliga.”
“It’s a different level of a club. Bayern Munich is an institution in Germany, and it’s an institution in the world.”
“Their track record of winning trophies speaks for itself.”
The former French international also took a dig at Tottenham, saying that Kane now has a bigger chance of winning trophies, which wasn’t possible at the North London club.
“He just needs to look after himself physically so that he can perform at the same level and try to win as many trophies as possible, which wasn’t possible at Tottenham.”
Silvestre also sees Kane as a player that Bayern Munich needs as they’ve been trying to find a successor for Robert Lewandowski ever since the Polish striker left the Bavarian giants in 2022.
“And he will be a huge addition for Bayern Munich. They’ve been missing a striker like him since Robert Lewandowski left, and I think it’s a perfect match.”
The England captain could have chosen to play out his contract and then have a bigger pool of clubs to choose from next season, but Silvestre believes that it would have been challenging because of Daniel Levy, who is known to be a tough negotiator.
The Frenchman sees the Bayern move as one that suits both parties, as Kane got his move and Tottenham got a good transfer fee for him.
“I think that wasn’t an option because Daniel Levy wouldn’t have let that happen.”
“So, it’s good for both sides. Tottenham gets a good fee, and Harry gets the move before the Euros.”
“It was good timing because he was desperate to leave a year ago. It’s a good one.”
