There are three English Championship games live on TV this Sunday in a feast of action, with Leeds vs Cardiff the meaty filling in the sandwich.
The home side were relegated from the Premier League after a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham on the final day of last season. While the visitors only avoided the same fate from the second tier due to Reading’s points deduction.

Sam Allardyce could not save Leeds from relegation last season. Ending their three-year stay in the English top flight. The Elland Road faithful will be hoping for a swifter return than the 16 years it took the last time their side fell through the Premier League trapdoor.
Proven campaigner at this level, Daniel Farke, is the man tasked with engineering an immediate bounce back. The German manager ended with a winners medal around his neck on the last two occasions he operated in the Championship.
As always, a sell-out crowd will be in attendance in Yorkshire, creating its usual cauldron of noise. Home support is a key element to Farke’s strategy, previously referring to the home ground as their “living room”.
After two pre-season defeats to strong opponents Manchester United and Monaco, Leeds ended their warm-up games in good form. Victories over Nottingham Forest and Hearts provided momentum they will look to take into the new campaign.
The visitors also have a new man in the dugout, but unlike Farke, this will be his first appearance in English football. Erol Bulut took over from Sabri Lamouchi after the latter was not kept on despite securing their Championship status.
The Bluebirds have mostly put a side together of players looking to prove a point or recapture former heights. The home side’s individual talent will get them through here with the help of the Elland Road faithful. If Farke has already been able to gel those individuals together as a collective force, the margin of victory could be a wide one.
Taking a look at the Sunday menu, this game certainly catches the eye. Most definitely having the potential for a fiery encounter.
The last six meetings have produced a tasty looking 28 goals. Playing each other as recently as last season after being drawn together in the FA Cup third round. A 2-2 tie at the Cardiff City Stadium was followed by an extraordinary 5-2 win for Leeds in the replay.
But it is the cards tally that really made me sit up and take notice. Four of those six games featured a red card, two for each team. With 24 yellow cards brandished in addition to those.
The man in the middle is Josh Smith, who, with 111, issued the sixth-highest amount of yellow cards in the Championship last season. Only three officials showed more than his four red cards too.
With plenty at stake, as both teams look to set the tone for their seasons, a white-hot atmosphere in a game live on TV, all the ingredients for cards are there.
Another trait of a Farke side is the number of corners they win. In his first title-winning season with Norwich, no team took more flag kicks than the Canaries at home. Taking a total of 164 at an average of 7.13 per game. That average only dropped marginally to six per game on the road.
We have seen this already taking shape during pre-season. Playing away at Premier League Nottingham Forest, Leeds had six corners. A venue they only had two at in the league game in February. Hitting double figures on their visit to Edinburgh to play Hearts last weekend.
Expect the hosts to have plenty of the ball at Elland Road on Sunday. The dynamic of their players lends itself perfectly to this leg of the builder. As does the fact the crowd will roar them forward even if they take an early lead.
