In a game that will have people tuning in to watch all around the world, we have Manchester City vs Real Madrid bet builder tips.
This really is a supersonic clash between two real heavyweights of European football. With the expectation for both teams to produce a clash that will live forever in the memory.
Ultimately for one of these sides, their Champions League hopes will slide away for another season. For the victors, some might say they are all but guaranteed to go on and win the trophy.
In this article:
Champions League Semi-Final, Wednesday, May 17th, 20:00 (UK)
This tie hangs delicately in the balance following last week’s stalemate at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Both sides seemed understandably respectful of each other with both goals coming against the run of play at the time.
The two stunning strikes either side of half-time set up an intriguing, eagerly anticipated second leg at the Etihad with all the ingredients to provide a classic.
Following over half an hour of Manchester City pressure, Los Blancos showcased their ferocious counter-attacking quality by taking the lead with their only shot of the first half. But what a strike it was. Vinicius Junior fizzed the ball past compatriot Ederson from 25 yards.
Kevin De Bruyne retaliated in ferocious fashion. Crashing a long-range effort beyond international team-mate Thibaut Courtois at a time when the hosts looked more likely to grab a vital second goal.
Pep Guardiola saw his side blow a two-goal lead as the game entered the last minute of normal time in the second leg of their semi-final against Madrid last season. Going on to suffer defeat in extra time. So he would have been pretty content to see the remainder of this year’s contest conclude without too much further notable action.
The 1-1 draw last week is likely to be a result neither legendary manager will be too disappointed with. Both believe they have the tools to finish the job and book their place at the showpiece final in Istanbul.
It would be foolish to write off Real Madrid. Especially in this competition in which they are defending champions and record 14-time winners.
However, I have to side with Manchester City here. A team that just seems to be in the perfect moment. Brimming full of confidence, peaking at just the right time and formidable at home. Pep’s men are heavily fancied but rightly so.
The Cityzens have compiled an unbeaten run of 22 games in which they have won 18 with the four draws all coming away from home. In the Champions League, they are unbeaten in their last 25 home games stretching back to 2018. Beating Real Madrid twice in that sequence including a 4-3 win at this stage of the competition last season.
I am using bet365 for this Bet Builder selection. This is the type of fixture the Early Payout feature is made for. Last season’s encounter would have seen this line ticked off as a winner when Man City took a 2-0 lead after just 11 minutes. It would certainly take away the stress of a game that ebbed and flowed and ended up producing seven goals. If the home side take a two-goal lead here, the final outcome will be irrelevant as this leg will already be locked in as won.
Real Madrid have scored in 23 of their last 24 UEFA Champions League games, including in each of their last 17 since a 1-0 loss to PSG in February 2022. Carlo Ancelotti has also seen his side score in 49 of 55 competitive fixtures this season so I am not expecting an easy ride. Unless bet365’s Early Payout kicks in!
But I will be using the visitors’ attacking threat as the second leg of this builder. Especially as the props lines at bet365 can boost the odds. Man City will dominate the ball with Los Blancos set up to counter. The opening goal last week proved the perfect example of how they will look to utilise that.
Vinícius Júnior is without a doubt the key man in that gameplan. The Brazilian has either scored (5) or assisted (4) in each of his last seven UEFA Champions League appearances. With seven goals and five assists from 11 appearances in the competition this term overall.
It is the 22-year-old’s shots on target I am focussing on here. He has had 37 attempts at goal in his 885 minutes of Champions League action this season with 21 of those on target. Equating to one every 42 minutes.
The bet365 Bet Builder allows you tremendous control over how aggressively you wish to play the prop lines. My second leg of the builder is going to be for Vinícius Júnior to have over 0.5 shots on target. Something he has done in 34 of his 40 La Liga and UCL starts this campaign with at least one in 11 of his last 12. However, bet365 offers you the chance to play over 1.5 shots on target at much higher odds. With Vini having at least two in 15 of those starts.
My final selection comes from the player to be carded market. The consensus last week was that referee Artur Soares Dias was surprisingly lenient although he did end up carding four players as well as Carlo Ancelotti.
Szymon Marciniak takes this whistle in Manchester. You may remember the Polish official as the man who took charge of the World Cup final in December. He averages 4.67 cards per game across his 33 appointments this season but shows 32 yellow and two red cards in his seven Champions League outings.
Arguably the most surprising name absent in the referee’s notebook last week was Dani Carvajal. The Madrid right-back had an eye-catching duel with Jack Grealish for most of the evening. Their ongoing spat is bound to have caught the attention of the officials ahead of this second leg. It wouldn’t be the biggest surprise that both players have their cards marked already. The 31-year-old defender committed four fouls in the home leg as well as narrowly missing an attempted professional foul to stop a late City breakaway.
Grealish is the 2nd most fouled player in the Premier League and is renowned for his ability to tempt in mistimed tackles. The home support is baying for action to be taken on any visiting player transgressing against their idols. Carvajal may not be so fortunate at the Etihad.
A tally of all main props are tracked on bet365’s Player Stats tab in the in-play menu of the game once it kicks off. You can also select Live Alerts to keep track as the goals and cards (hopefully) start to fly in.
Bet Builder odds: 7.50 (TRACKED BET)
