We’ll find out the League Cup finalists on Wednesday evening and we have some Manchester United v Nottingham Forest bet builder tips.
Man United’s preparation for the first leg with Forest was hardly ideal, dropping points at Selhurst Park then losing to Arsenal. However, the Red Devils cruised to a 3-0 victory at the City Ground.
Forest will now have to do what no side has ever done in this competition and overturn a 3-0 deficit to reach Wembley.
In this article:
England, League Cup, Wednesday, February 1, 20:00 (UK)
Manchester United welcome Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford in the second leg of their EFL semi-final.
After a dominant display in the first leg, Wednesday night’s host has one foot in the final.
Their 3-0 advantage could give Erik Ten Hag an opportunity to rest and rotate. After Man Utd’s FA Cup win over Reading, Christian Eriksen left the ground on crutches and is expected to miss this game. Fred will likely fill the void in the middle of the park.
Elsewhere, Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho could come in on the flanks at the expense of Antony and potentially Marcus Rashford.
Domestically, Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in their last four, only losing one of their last seven- to Manchester United- winning three of their games over that period.
This form has seen Steve Cooper’s side rise to 13th in the table, four points above the drop.
Forest were emphatically dumped out of the FA Cup to Blackpool and thumped in the first leg of this semi-final tie.
Cooper also has several absentees to contend with, the most telling of which is Morgan Gibbs-White who suffered an ankle injury in the first leg and is likely to miss out here.
Dean Henderson, Cheikhou Kouyate, Taiwo Awoniyi, Moussa Niakhate and Omar Richards all also unavailable with injury.
The dynamic of this clash makes it an awkward betting proposition.
With Manchester United three goals to the good, Steve Cooper’s side have to go for this, there is no other alternative, which could yield a high shot count for the Tricky Trees.
At odds against, 10+ Forest shots in is the first selection.
At the City ground, Forest did not muster an attempt till the 25th minute and by that time they were a goal down.
They finished the game with 13 attempts, the majority of which came after the interval, which obviously bodes well for this selection.
It is worth noting that Old Trafford has not proved a happy hunting ground for the Red Devils’ opposition. They have only lost twice there all season and restricted their last opponents to a combined total of 35 shots.
Over that period, no side has managed to hit the line of 10. The last side to do it was Burnley, in the fourth round of this competition and in that game the Clarets were a goal down within the first half an hour.
Given the state of this tie, I am happy to overlook the domestic statistics here, I think 10 is certainly achievable.
Combining the 10+ shots with Danilo to complete 3+ tackles pays out at 5.25 with Sky Bet.
The Brazilian midfielder averaged over two a game in his homeland, hitting this line in on 13 occasions.
Since moving across the Atlantic, Danilo has only played 104 competitive minutes, completing a staggering seven tackles in that time and attempting eight.
Bet Builder odds: 5.25
