Manchester City vs Chelsea Preview
England, FA Cup, Sunday, January 8th, 16:30 (UK)
Thursday night’s marginal defeat to Manchester City was Chelsea’s 5th over their last seven games.
Marginal in the scoreline, but City were far the superior side. If it weren’t for some strange tactics, things would have been more comfortable for Pep Guardiola’s side.
That defeat sees the Blues slump to 10th in the table, 10 points from qualification for the Champions League.
At what point though does Todd Boehly say enough is enough?
Fortune has not favoured Graham Potter’s men with Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic limping off in the first half at Stamford Bridge. The pair are unlikely to feature on Sunday, joining Reece James, Wesley Fofana, N’Golo Kanté, Armando Broja, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ben Chilwell in the treatment room.
Not so long ago the Blues pipped City to the Champions League trophy in the final. However, they have not won a game against them since.
The victory at Stamford Bridge meant it was the first time, ever, that City had beaten Chelsea four times in a row.
Pep Guardiola predicted title rivals Arsenal would amass 100 points this campaign, and if he proves to be right, the FA Cup may represent a more realistic chance of silverware.
In this competition Sunday, the hosts are 1.40 to beat their ‘big six’ rivals and make it five on the spin here.

Had a 6.45 winner on Thursday backing a foul double and I am going to stick along similar lines here, very similar in fact.
Cesar Azpilicueta looks set to continue at full back, and the Spaniard committed three fouls at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, the second most of anyone on the field.
This means that he has met the line of 2+ fouls in six of his seven starts at right-back this season.
I was unsure whether it would be Phil Foden or Jack Grealish he was opposing in the league, with it being the former the latter is almost certain to start here, especially considering Grealish made a game-defining contribution in London.
I am sure everyone is well aware of Grealish’s knack of drawing fouls, winning 2.5 per game in the EPL. In his last three starts, he was judged to be fouled nine times.
It also bodes well for this bet that he and Azpilicueta are not best of friends, both carded for an argument they had in these sides’ penultimate meeting.
Coupling Azpilicueta’s 2+ fouls with his compatriot Rodri to hit the same line pays out at 4.33. City’s midfielder covered the line twice over in midweek, committing four fouls.
He tops his side’s charts in terms of defensive output, averaging 2.3 tackles, 1.7 fouls and 1.1 interceptions per game.
- Cesar Azpilicueta 2+ fouls
- Rodri 2+ fouls
