Manchester City vs FC Copenhagen prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview – James Cantrill has taken a look at this one and fancies goals, goalscorers and has a longshot in mind.
Manchester City already have one foot in the next round of the Champions League after a 3-1 win against Copenhagen in the first leg, and if their performances in Europe over the past two seasons are anything to go by, overcoming a two-goal lead at the Etihad is next to impossible.
Our Manchester City vs FC Copenhagen prediction is for Copenhagen to win the match 2-1.
In this article:
Europe, Champions League, Wednesday, March 6th, 20:00 (UK)
Manchester City took care of the Manchester derby on Sunday before welcoming FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. Then, it is another monumental game in the Premier League against current leaders Liverpool next Sunday.
With a 3-1 cushion at the halfway stage of this Champions League two-legged tie and with it coming in between games with Manchester United and Liverpool in the league, it would be fair to assume Pep Guardiola rotates on Wednesday evening.
The Citizens are unsurprisingly short in the 1X2, but assuming Pep does shuffle his deck, it is all the more reason to side with both teams to score at odds-against.
It is a bet that has clicked with some regularity this campaign.
In this competition, both teams have found the net in six of City’s seven games and two of the three at the Etihad, which is impressive considering they have played Red Star Belgrade, Young Boys and RB Leipzig.
Domestically, eight of their 13 home games have also seen BTTS land and with Copenhagen coming to England with nothing to lose, who says they cannot bloody the nose of the hosts?
Rotation should see Matheus Nunes get the nod for the hosts.
When he was admiring him from afar at Wolves, Pep called Nunes “world-class”, but since he joined the City ranks, the Spanish supremo has retracted that statement.
Make of that what you will, but to be fair to the Portuguese midfielder, the majority of Pep’s signings enjoy a tumultuous start to life at the Etihad.
Nunes has played plenty of minutes in this competition, making four starts and having 12 shots in total.
He has three assists to his name at City, and although he is yet to break his goal duck, his continental performances have shown promise.
He has racked up an xG of 0.43 and missed two ‘big chances.’ In a game City are as short as 1.11 to win, backing a midfielder to net at odds of 6.75 appeals.
Copenhagen is to win, and both teams to score. It is pie in the sky, completely unrealistic and has very, very, very little chance of winning and yet I think it is worth a tout.
Copenhagen progressed in a Champions League group consisting of Manchester United, Galatasaray and Bayern Munich. That cannot be forgotten in a hurry.
The Danish side finished second, Manchester United finished bottom of the group, in case you forgot, but what is more, is Copenhagen went toe-to-toe with each of their opponents.
They drew 2-2 away at İstanbul and won the return fixture 1-0.
Copenhagen picked up a point at Bayern and were edged out 2-1 on their own turf. Again, it was a marginal loss at Old Trafford, and they won a seven-goal thriller against Manchester United at home.
They head to the Etihad needing to score at least two goals; this game comes in the middle of two massive games for Manchester City, so they should rotate.

Jack Grealish has struggled to hit the standard he reached last season, the winger has more bookings (6) then he does goal contributions (5) this term. Pep recently called on him to try and raise his standards but he hobbled off in the first half of the first leg and should be unavailable here.
Josko Gvardiol is a doubt for the Manchetser derby but should be fit to start on Wednesday. Elsewhere, expect the big hitters to be rested at the Etihad ready for the clash with Liverpool at the weekend, this should see Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden left out in midweek.
Manchester City possible starting lineup:Ederson; Walker, Dias, Gvardiol; Lewis, Kovacic; Doku, Nunes, Bernardo Silva, Bobb; Alvarez
FC Copenhagen possible starting lineup:Grabara; Jelert, Vavro, McKenna, Diks; Goncalves, Falk, Mattsson; Elyounoussi, Claesson, Achouri
