West Brom vs Watford Preview

Watford were relegated from the Premier League last campaign and finished the season in terrible fashion under Roy Hodgson. Rob Edwards is now in charge and they were victorious in his first game in charge against Sheffield United as they look to immediately return to the top flight.

West Brom made a disappointing attempt to win promotion last season, despite being one of the pre-season favourites. They now have Steve Bruce at the helm, but they could only manage a draw with Middlesbrough last weekend.

The bookmakers have struggled to split the two teams going into this one, but I think the visitors are better placed to get the victory. West Brom have only beaten Watford once in their last seven meetings, and there are definitely question marks about Bruce’s ability after his poor stint at Newcastle and his inability to turn West Brom around when he came in last season.

Rob Edwards has taken a big step up from Forest Green Rovers to join Watford, but he has hit the ground running in the Championship. Watford have a squad more than capable of returning to the Premier League, and beating promotion rivals Sheffield United will only have increased confidence in the camp. I’m happy to back Watford to win here, with the insurance of getting our money back if the game finishes as a draw.

Santos have been poor again this season, and they look set for another midtable finish 21 games into the season. They have just 27 points so far, a tally that will not be deemed good enough for perhaps Brazil’s most famous football team.

Coritiba have five fewer points than Santos at this stage but they come into this one as slight favourites. Coritiba have won just one of the last seven meetings between these sides, but Santos’ away form in the league is truly woeful. They have won just one of their last 10 matches on the road, drawing six and losing three.

Goals have been few and far between for Santos on the road, they are averaging less than a goal per game in their last 10 away matches. I don’t think they have the quality to be free-scoring here either.

Coritiba vs Santos Best Bet

Both of these teams’ last 10 matches are averaging over 11 corners per game, well above the required count for this bet to land. Under four goals in the match has landed in the last 10 meetings between these sides, so a combination of the two angles looks a good bet here.

Liverpool Montevideo come into this one as strong favourites, even though they lost their opening fixture 3-1 at home to Defensor Sporting. Albion won their first game 4-2, and I’m expecting the goals trend to continue into this one.

Montevideo will know the importance of getting three points on the board, and they possess more than enough quality to hurt the home side. Albion’s last five home matches are averaging over three goals per game, and the four goals scored in their first match should give their forwards confidence here.

Liverpool Montevideo’s last five away matches are also averaging three goals per game. They have scored two or more in three of those, and I’m expecting them to find the back of the net here given that they are clear favourites in the eyes of the bookmakers.

Albion FC vs Liverpool Montevideo Best Bet

The game looks set to see a glut of goals, with both teams showing attacking prowess and defensive frailty in their first matches. Liverpool Montevideo are clear favourites and they need to bounce back from an opening day defeat, so I’m expecting them to go for it here. Albion FC are also more than capable of finding the net, and they have the home advantage in what should be an entertaining clash.
