My initial thought when viewing this match-up was that cards were on the horizon considering the ensuing bloodbath. With Valencia involved, it’s usually a fool-proof strategy. Unfortunately, the bookies are wise to it with the Asian cards line at a lofty six cards.
Nevertheless, a hot-headed Valencian outfit can still do us a favour if they continue with life in a similar vein. With bookings aplenty anticipated, and a referee that averages 4.40 yellow cards per90 this season, the booking route is still one I’m going to take.
Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea’s card stats suggest a tight affair in terms of the likely bookings split. The Spaniard averages 2.25 home cards and 2.35 away cards in La Liga this season.
However, when analysing the numbers behind the two teams, Valencia’s 4.00 cards per90 average dwarfs Rayo’s 2.27. It’s worth noting that Valencia’s opponents also receive an average of 4.00 per90. Yet, Rayo’s opponents clock up more than they do, with 3.27 cards per90.
I don’t necessarily like backing teams to receive more cards than their counterparts, but the price makes it difficult to ignore. Valencia, at -0.5 Asian cards handicap, comes in at evens.
In the November head-to-head at the Mestalla, Valencia ticked off the handicap after seeing six cards to Rayo’s four. Away from home, and with Rayo more capable in their own backyard, this should go close.

It has been a campaign that flatters to deceive for Bologna. Likewise, Sampdoria’s is one to forget after a ninth-placed finish last season.
Sampdoria’s 18th loss of the season sets up this Monday night clash as the visitors cautiously look over their shoulder. Seven points separate them and Genoa as a desperate race for survival picks up pace.
Speaking of defeats, Sampdoria have been on the end of six consecutive losses at the hands of their Monday night hosts. This should be a tense affair for the travelling side, with their main focus being not to lose or, if they can help it, concede.
The aim of not conceding will be made slightly easier by Bologna’s current form. Bologna’s last strike came over 400 footballing minutes ago, that’s zero goals in the last four Serie A games. If Bologna blanks for the fifth game on the trot, it will be their most barren run since 2011.
At the Renato Dall’Ara, Bologna have overseen over 2.5 goals in just 33% of games this season. More recently, in the last ten at home, just 22% – Genoa and Spezia the only two clubs recording fewer on home soil.
Sampdoria, on their travels, are accustomed to more goals than the Bologna faithful pay their hard-earned for. The away side have ticked off over 2.5 goals in 40% of their last ten.
Bologna’s 7% season strike rate at home for scoring in the opening 15 minutes, whereas Sampdoria reaches 20%. In what is expected to be a game with few goals, these opening stages should be void of too much action.
With the statistics behind the thought process giving us the green light, William Hill’s bet builder is a go’er at odds-against.

Sky’s fixture choice for Monday night football in the second tier couldn’t have been any better. A stuttering Huddersfield Town laces up its gloves as a plucky Luton side sidesteps a weight class or three and enters the promotion party.
There is one solitary point between the two Premier League-chasing sides. Forty games into the Championship season just a single point decides who occupies fourth and fifth.
It’s a big one, that’s for sure. There was a period where automatic promotion looked somewhat inevitable for Huddersfield. It was an unbeaten run turning heads up and down the country, but one that has since faded with successive defeats.
The Terriers now face Luton, QPR and Middlesbrough on the bounce, a string of fixtures likely to decide their season.
Luton Town are well equipped to cause upsets in this division and have done so regularly. Such ability makes games like this hard to call from a 1×2 market perspective.
Instead, the card markets will once again be getting a visit. Geoff Eltringham dons the whistle for the Championship’s biggest game of the weekend. The referee’s 4.18 cards per90 average has the writing on the wall for potential cards at the John Smith’s Stadium.
With Eltringham giving both teams a second half card in 73% of matches, we may have a way in here. Huddersfield’s 1.16 second-half cards received home average is matched, and more, by Luton’s 1.70 per90.
At 1.70, in a game of this magnitude, I’m fairly confident here.

A football acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A football acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create football accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the football acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
