Newcastle vs Liverpool Bet Builder Tips, Opta Stats, Player Props: Tricky St James’ Test

We have Newcastle v Liverpool Bet Builder Tips as the Premier League readies itself for an absolute thriller. Well, we’re all expecting it to be on Super Sunday as Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool visit St James’ Park. Eddie Howe’s Champions League-bound Newcastle United suffered defeat against Man City last weekend; they’ll want to put things right and earn maximum points this time round.
Liverpool did the double over Newcastle last campaign. They’re outsiders arriving here and are priced at 3.20 in what would be an impressive three points. The hosts are 2.20, whilst the draw is available at 4.0.
Newcastle began their season with a resounding win at St James’ Park over Aston Villa, the encounter ended 5-1 to the Magpies, but Unai Emery’s side didn’t exactly help themselves in a defensive aspect.
Sandro Tonali has slotted in perfectly to the midfield trio; he’s looked like a great addition to the squad with his energy and pressing. Harvey Barnes has already recorded his first goal for his new club. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have looked impressive, whilst Wataru Endo has a big gap to fill in holding midfield.

Newcastle vs Liverpool OPTA Stats: Diaz to rub shoulders with Fowler, Sturridge and Mané?
- Liverpool have won four of their last five Premier League away games against Newcastle, including the last two in a row. They’ve never won three consecutive visits to St James’ Park in their league history.
- Liverpool beat Newcastle home and away in 2022/23; the only team to do so.
In recent years Newcastle have had very little joy when playing against Liverpool, they’ve failed to win any of the last 13 meetings (0W-4D-9L). - Luis Díaz has scored in each of Liverpool’s opening two Premier League games this season – the only three players to score in the Reds’ first three Premier League matches of a season are Robbie Fowler in 1994-95, Daniel Sturridge in 2013-14 and Sadio Mané in 2017-18.
- Jurgen Klopp’s side won the shot count 36-19 in the two encounters last season.
- Liverpool are on the longest current unbeaten run in the Premier League, a run of 13 matches (W8 D5) since losing 4-1 at Man City in April. They’ve fallen behind in five games in that sequence, gaining nine points from losing positions, more than any other side since the first game of this unbeaten run.
- Despite playing with ten men for over 70 minutes, Newcastle created more xG than Liverpool in this fixture last season.
Newcastle vs Liverpool Bet Builder Tips: Go big or go home
Luis Diaz Anytime Goalscorer
We’ll be utilising bet365’s bet builder function for our foray into Super Sunday’s sizeable match-up. The markets on offer that we can combine makes the bookmaker a go-to when piecing together two or more selections. Today, we’ll look at goal scorers and player bookings, but the depth of player props available, including shots and tackles, plus team props of goal kicks, corners, and total shots edges bet365 way in front of other bookmakers in the bet builder field.
You could back any of the Liverpool attackers to score, there are so many of them, and they all pose a threat. The Colombian has scored in both games this campaign and is the biggest price to score out of the Liverpool attack. Diaz has accumulated seven shots so far, just two have come on target, but he’s racked up 0.84xG and 0.42xG in those two fixtures.
Since his move from Porto, Diaz has bagged ten times in 32 appearances in the Premier League. If he can stay fit, then he’ll be expected to double that goal tally. He’s a real threat with his pace and trickery and can score all types of goals.
Newcastle have yet to keep a clean sheet this season, although we are only two matches into the new season. You’d be expecting Liverpool and Diaz to get chances in a clash that has the goal line set at 3.25. Eddie Howe’s side did over-perform defensively in 22/23; they conceded 33 times but had upwards of 40xGA.
Newcastle allowed 16 shots here on the opening day in their win against Aston Villa; six came on target. The price on Diaz hitting the back of the net is a decent price and a handy way to get this bet builder going.
Alexander Isak Anytime Goalscorer
Isak is a real favourite of mine. Newcastle have a quality player on their hands in the Swede. In his first season, Isak averaged a goal every 152 minutes for Eddie Howe’s side. I expect that number to decrease this campaign as he and the team as a whole improve. Undoubtedly, he’ll get chances to score in this clash.
In Newcastle’s win over Aston Villa, Isak managed three shots, and they all hit the target. He failed to record a single attempt in the clash away at Man City, so you’d expect him to come out fit and firing on Sunday afternoon in front of the home support.
Liverpool has allowed nine shots on target so far this season, four against Chelsea and a further five at home to Bournemouth. The home side is odds on to record six attempts on goal and score at least twice, making the Isak price appealing.
Joelinton To Be Booked
Probably the strongest selection of the three, we all know the type of player Joelinton is, and to be fair to him, he’s turned his career around over the last couple of years. His new role in central midfield has proven a fantastic choice after never really cutting it as a number nine.
The Brazilian loves to get stuck in, which usually results in him picking up a caution. He received 12 yellow cards last campaign in 32 league matches, the second most of any player. The 27-year-old was booked in both meetings against Liverpool in the 2021/22 campaign.
In a game that should be very fast-paced, Joelinton has every chance of receiving a caution. The Liverpool midfield trio will give Newcastle a great battle in the middle of the park. Plenty of tackles will fly in, making him a great candidate for a card.
