As we approach the final few weeks of the Nigeria Professional Football League season, one can expect a thrilling, yet grandstand finish to an exciting campaign.

It has been a tough battle all season long for the league title, but it seems the coast is clear for Rivers United to land their first title, while traditional clubs like Heartland, Kano Pillars and the likes have found themselves in the relegation waters.

Here are the best bets for the latest round of action.

Enyimba claimed a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture, but it seems things have changed a bit between the two sides. The hosts have found a new form at home, where they have scored goals aplenty.

On the other hand, since the appointment of Emmanuel Deutsch at Sunshine, the Owena Whales have slowed down a bit and have struggled to score goals. This is a meeting between a high scoring side and another with a stingy defence but I’m backing at least two goals to be scored between both sides.

Shooting Stars vs Remo Stars Best Bet

Shooting Stars and Remo Stars meet once again in the NPFL. This is a fixture that the home side are yet to taste a win. At the moment, Shooting are winless in their last three league games, while Remo suffered a demoralizing 3-1 defeat at home last weekend.

Just like it happened in the first leg, I expect a fierce battle between the two sides with a lot of tackles and defensive activity. Fun fact, Remo Stars’ last five away NPFL games have ended in under 2.5 goals.

Gombe United vs Heartland Best Bet

The fairytale run of Gombe United has seen them maintain a mid table position all season and they have been solid at home. In fact, the Savannah Scorpions have won five of their last six home games in the league.

As for Heartland, the quest for survival takes them far north. With some high level of confidence after their comeback home win over Shooting Stars last time out, they might be motivated for this.

But for the fact that Heartland have lost seven of their past eight away games, I can’t look past a Gombe United win here.

Rivers United vs Plateau United Best Bet

Rivers United are the team to beat in the league this season. Though Plateau United fought hard in the first half of the season, it’s been a different case entirely in the second stanza.

Rivers United have won all of their last five home games without conceding a goal and here comes a Plateau United side that have lost their last four away outings.

Even in the absence of talisman Ishaq Kayode, they picked a win at Dakkada on MD 30 and I’m strongly backing them to win against Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men in Port-Harcourt.

Katsina United vs Niger Tornadoes Best Bet

Since the arrival of Usman Abd’Allah, Katsina United have been solid at home. Asides the loss to Rivers United, they have beaten the likes of Enyimba and Akwa United at home.

Although Tornadoes have been solid as well, I see it as a fixture that the home side will take all three points. In their H2H record, Katsina United have won all the past three meetings at home.

This is enough reason for me to stick my neck out for another home win for the Chanji boys.
