It was a thrilling end to the Premier League 2021/22 season as Manchester City retained their crown, winning their fourth title in five seasons.

Our attention will now turn to the 2022/23 Premier League season, where another exciting season lies in wait. With a mid-season break for the World Cup in Qatar, the 2022/23 season will start earlier than usual on August 6th.

Who are the favourites to win the Premier League in 2023?

Who is the favourite to win the Premier League 2023?

  • Manchester City to win – 1.57

Once again, Manchester City are the favourites to win the Premier League. The Citizens scored a league-high 99 goals in the just concluded campaign and it is scary to think that they did that without a proper striker. Now, they have Erling Haaland in their ranks and you can imagine they will even be more lethal in front of goal.

Ilkay Gundogan and Fernandinho will leave the club this summer so we can expect they will bring in at least one central midfielder. Gabriel Jesus’ future remains uncertain and he could yet leave as well but City have more than enough depth to cover for the Brazilian.

City look adequate in other departments and it is hard to see another season where they are not the frontrunners for the title.

It is perhaps no surprise that the Citizens have odds of 1.57 to win the title for the third consecutive season, as per Odds Checker.

Who are the contenders to win the Premier League 2023?

  • Liverpool to win – 3.00
  • Chelsea to win –  18.00

You have to feel for Liverpool though, as their best was still not good enough to stop Manchester City from claiming the 2021/22 title. Their impressive tally of 92 points would have won them the title in any other European domestic league but there is a reason the Premier League is different.

Liverpool have given City a close run for the title in the past three seasons and the bookmakers also expect more of the same for the coming campaign. Liverpool are not far off behind City, with odds of 3.00 on offer for them to win the League.

For Chelsea, a new era without Abramovich might reduce their spending power. Don’t expect them to throw money at players like they’ve done in the past.

With Antonio Rudiger already departed, many more stars are expected to leave the club and it would make sense to see 2022/23 as a rebuild to remain competitive rather than to challenge. It might be somewhat generous but it’s understandable to see why the Blues have 18.00 odds to challenge one of Liverpool or City for the title.

Who are the outsiders to win the Premier League 2023?

  •  Tottenham to win – 26.00
  •  Manchester United to win –  21.00
  •  Arsenal to win – 51.00
  •  Newcastle to win – 67.00

Tottenham have shown much improvement under Antonio Conte. If any team aside the top favourites would end up winning the league, Spurs come to mind. Only Liverpool and Manchester City had more points than Spurs in 2022 and they are expected to take that momentum to the 2022/23 season.

Over to the other half of Manchester, it is a period of rebuilding, coming at a time where they are experiencing the lowest of lows. The Red Devils had a 2021/22 campaign to forget, having finished with the lowest points tally since it was the ‘Premier League’ rebrand in 1992.

Personally, I think the bookmakers are generous with odds of 25.00 for United but perhaps there is some hope that Erik Ten Hag might restore good fortune back to the club.

For Arsenal, they missed out on Champions League football yet again but there was some indication that the Gunners were slowly coming around. The Gunners had the youngest age average of any team and it did show at several points of the 2021/22 season. Arsenal are expected to make some signings in the summer and they might just come as shock contenders for the Premier League title.

In terms of a turnaround, Newcastle probably had the best second half of the 2021/22 season than any other side. We’ve seen what injection of funds have done to Manchester City over the years and who’s to say the same cannot happen for Newcastle. The Magpies have been linked with some big names over the past few weeks and I can see them making some quality signings in the summer.

The 2022/23 campaign might come too soon for a title challenge but it is not out of place to think that Newcastle can get a top-four finish.

In May 2023,we’ll come back to this and see how it all played out.
