Although Tottenham fans would have been pleased with their progress in the FA Cup, their narrow 1-0 win at home to Portsmouth did little to boost morale. Fast forward a few weeks ago and those same levels morale are arguably no higher.

After successive league defeats to both Arsenal and Manchester City, it has only highlighted how much catchup Antonio Conte and his players still need to make. In fairness, it is not something that this group of players is likely to make this season.

While Monday’s victory at Fulham was certainly a step in the right direction, there is also an underlying sense that this current Spurs crop are blowing hot and cold. Something that upcoming opponents Preston will look to take advantage of.

Going into this cup tie, Ryan Lowe’s men are one of a number of Championship sides with playoff aspirations at the end of the season. They may lie 11th in the table at the time of writing but they are only two points behind Middlesbrough in sixth.

Which means a top-six finish is certainly up for grabs and if the Deepdale outfit can just stitch together a little more consistency, their position within England’s second tier will improve remarkably.

Then again, you could also say the same about Tottenham and if they can rediscover what it takes to play across 90 minutes than opposed to 45 on a more regular basis, their own disposition could soon become a lot sunnier.

After getting the better of Fulham at the start of the week, it was revealed that the Tottenham players had a meeting before the game. One that addressed the issues that have plagued in the past couple of weeks.

Now Tottenham’s joint-highest scorer of all-time, the England captain was sounding rather croaky on Monday and with Richarlison serving as a more than able deputy, I think the Brazilian will find himself on the scoresheet.

With that said, there are still large question marks over Tottenham’s defence and that is why I have also opted for both teams to find the net at Deepdale, as Preston help themselves to a consolation.

Should these three selections get over the line, it will give us enough to play with in terms of the corner count. With no more than 12 looking like a rather safe amount, this could be the final hurdle between those who take the bet and winning odds of 7.50.
