Dominance in Seville, cards in Croatia, and a plucky underdog in Glasgow – what’s not to love about the Champions League. Here at bettingexpert, we’ve picked out three selections that have every chance.

Sevilla’s disheartening loss to Barcelona on the weekend added to a defeat to newly-promoted UD Almeria and an opening day slump to Osasuna. Sevilla’s 1-1 up against Real Vallodolid on home soil ensured this Sevilla side is a winless one in La Liga – four match-ups to forget.
In what appears to be horrible timing for Lopetegui’s men, a Manchester City side averaging 3.33 goals scored per game will kick off this year’s Champions League group stages in Seville. Erling Haaland and company will provide no let-off for this sleepy Sevilla outfit. With Champions League silverware the one missing piece in Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City trophy haul, we can expect his side to get off to a quick start in the group phase.
Last term, in a group that included PSG, RB Leipzig, and Club Brugge, City plundered 18 goals in six outings on the continent. In three of their four wins, City cashed in a -2 handicap as they cast aside RB Leipzig 6-3 in England, Club Brugge 1-5, and the Belgians’ 4-1 return fixture in Manchester. Delving a little deeper into previous seasons to gauge City’s approach under Pep, we can see a clear imposing pattern of returning profits on the handicap markets.
In 2020/21, 4/6 matches ticked off the -1.25 Asian Handicap; a 0-1 victory against Olympiakos and a 0-0 draw versus Porto standing as the outliers. During the season before, in 2019/20, 4/6 results would have banked the -1.25 Asian handicap. In the last three campaigns, City have opened their Champions League account with the following: 6-3 vs Leipzig, 3-1 vs Porto, and 0-3 vs Shakhtar.
It may be a tricky evening ahead for Sevilla. With there not being much value elsewhere in the game, the -1.25 Asian Handicap which offers half a loss if City win by one, could be a decent position to take.

Istvan Kovacs’ six appearances in UEFA’s flagship competition last season delivered a 4.67 yellow cards per90 average. Across all competitions, the official produced a hefty 5.07 cards per game, a sum including 8 red cards.
Chelsea’s current form proposes a closer match-up than the bookmakers have chalked up. At bet365, Chelsea are as short as 1.50 for the win, though the Blues may not have it all their own way in Croatia. That thought process sides with Chelsea needing to scrap their way towards a share of the points, something that won’t come easy in a stadium holding a 30,000-strong Zagreb contingent.
It’s not the most considerable of prices, but it’s one that could fly in given the circumstances and the official on duty. Dinamo Zagreb have had to navigate the Champions League qualifying stages to get the opportunity to welcome Chelsea to town. In the six fixtures that laid the foundations for a lucrative European campaign this season, the Croatian champions received: 2, 4, 1, 4, 1 and 2(both in ET) cards.
With a rather significant improvement in quality in the away dressing room and the likelihood of Chelsea commanding the majority of possession, cards may be on the agenda for the hosts. Niggly fouls, the prospect of halting counter-attacks, and frustration born from not seeing much of the ball could all force Kovac’s hand here.

The Bhoys are on a high. Hammering Old Firm opposition will do that to a pack of players up in Glasgow. Celtic will head into their Champions League fixture with Real Madrid primed and ready, brimming with belief they can pick apart decent opposition. However, that confidence and belief may just be their downfall.
Ange Postecoglou won’t instruct his side to park the bus. Celtic’s head honcho will expect his side to create chances at Celtic Park. With that in mind and the potential space available to exploit on the counter and in transition, Real Madrid should find joy. When you possess a forward line as clinical as Real Madrid’s, one or two lapses in concentration will prove critical.
After a season that garnered a La Liga triumph and Champions League silverware, Carlo Ancelotti’s pre-match press conference before his side’s fourth straight La Liga win should cause concern for upcoming opponents. “We have less doubts [about] ourselves than this time last year,” Ancelotti explained. “The transfer market has closed, we’ve got a great squad in every position, and we’re going to compete and fight hard”. It’s a damning statement for the rest of us, considering last season’s return.
Interestingly, though still boasting a bullish swagger in La Liga, Real Madrid have conceded in all four fixtures this season. That should give hope to Celtic, and it’s also behind the reasoning for the over 1.5 goals selection.
