Serbia, Switzerland and Poland are on the agenda for Saturday’s evening jaunt across Europe in search of interesting-looking selections. It’s the early stages of the season for all three countries, so naturally, tread carefully. However, if those often imposing in their homeland can revert to type, we may be okay here.

FK Crvena Zvezda vs Kolubara Best Bet

Serbia, Serbian Superliga, Saturday, 16th July, 19:00 (UK Time)

A routine 3-0 home win and a resounding 1-7 victory on the road made up FK Crvena Zvezda (more commonly known as Red Star Belgrade to British media) and FK Kolubara’s meetings last season in the Serbian Superliga. It’s safe to say that the one-time European Cup winners had a little too much in the arsenal for newly-promoted, Belgrade-based Kolubara.

Kolubara, who finished second in Serbia’s second division before the step up to compete with the country’s best, ended the 2021/22 campaign in 8th out of 16 teams, 54 points off their Saturday’s centurion counterparts. Last season was the first time Kolubara had competed in the top tier of Serbia’s footballing ladder. Although the lesser known of the two Belgrade sides, Kolubara boasts the professional birthplace of now Roma man, Nemanja Matić.

Serbia’s largest stadium will host the battle on Saturday night and oversee the second game of a campaign in its infancy. It was business as usual for FK Crvena Zvezda in the opener, registering a 4-0 win in 90-minutes as the curtains raised on a new season. Kolubara held their visitors, FK Radnicki, to a 1-1 draw.

For more of the same from an imposing FK Crvena Zvezda side that will likely ravage Serbia’s top-flight once more, I’ve fashioned a bet365 bet builder. Working on the premise that the visiting team may struggle to find the net, Crvena Zvezda to win both halves could be a good place to start for a bet builder. Kolubara conceded in both halves in 8/18 away from home last term – the most in the league. Unsurprisingly, the hosts scored the most goals in both halves in Serbia’s first division home and away, with 10/19 (home) and 13/18 on their travels.

In 2021/22, FK Crvena Zvezda championed a division high of 13/19 clean sheets. As a result, if their opening 4-0 win in front of home support last week is anything to go by, Kolubara could struggle in front of goal here. Away from home last season, Kolubara lost to nil on 8 of 18 occasions, second to only FK Napredak Krusevac.

At 1.80, it’s a punt that stats suggest should go close. Let’s hope there’s no slowing down for the side who reached the Europa League last 16 in February.

  • Selection: CrvenaWin to Nil & Win Each Half
  • Best Odds: 1.80 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Winterthur vs FC Basel Best Bet

Switzerland, Swiss Super League, Saturday,16th July, 19:30 (UK Time)

In FC Winterthur’s season successful promotion bid to the Swiss Super League, their first appearance since 1982, FCW racked up a 2.11 goals per90 average. FCW’s season was so impressive that Saturday’s opponents flexed their muscles and dismantled the spine of FCW’s coaching staff.

Head coach Alex Frei oversaw the title-winning season alongside assistant coach Davide Callà – both of whom have since departed to FC Basel. This summer’s managerial merry-go-round has given the opening fixture an extra bite ahead of kick-off.

Frei moved to FC Basel after just six months in the Winterthur position. As a former player, the striker turned out for Stade Rennais, Dortmund, and following a €4.25m switch, FC Basel until his retirement four years later.

The aforementioned pairing now in Basel’s dressing room put together a 6-2 humiliating drubbing over FC Basel in the cup last term. No wonder they impressed enough to force the hierarchy at St. Jakob-Park. In the other dugout on Saturday, the new Winterthur boss Bruno Berner will face Frei and company. Berner put pen to paper on a two-year contract with the latest Super League club, vacating his post as Swiss U19s manager and taking his first foray into the first division in Switzerland.

Unfortunately for FCW, creative midfielder Roberto Oliveria Alves, like their head coach, has jumped ship to Poland. Last season Alves was one of the standout performers, registering 12 goals and nine assists in Winterthur colours. The Portuguese Swiss national will be dearly missed, but there’s hope FCW can kick on without him.

I’m expecting goals in Switzerland, considering either side’s ability to find the net. If proved correct and the goals flow, each side should have their say, and I’m banking on each half to have its share of the action.

  • Selection: BTTS and 1+ Goal Each Half
  • Best Odds: 1.83 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 10/10

Korona vs Legia Warsaw Best Bet

Poland, Estraklasa, Saturday, 16th July, 19:00 (UK Time)

Saturday evening’s showdown in Poland will take place at the Suzuki Stadium, a 15,500-seater in Kielce. It is a two-hour drive from Warsaw for the travelling supporters, a relatively comfortable trip in what could be a relatively comfortable victory.

Korana are newly-promoted after finishing fourth and progressing through playoffs last term. Before their second division stint, Legia won the previous five head-to-heads dating back to 2018 to the tune of 14-3.

There is a gulf in class here and for most of the Polish top-flight. That gap from the top sides to the bottom may be clear to see in terms of summer transfer activity between the two locking horns on Saturday. Korona shelled out £41,000 for striker Bartosz Spiaczka from Gornik Leczna, a capture they’ll be hoping can provide the goals to bridge the said gap. In comparison, the £1.35m fee for new defensive starlet Maik Nawrocki from the Bundesliga stands as Legia’s number one incoming.

Legia should have enough to turn over Korona, and it may surprise a few to see them priced up at just shy of evens. But, of course, with it being the season’s first game and question marks engulfing the opening day of a new campaign, it makes sense. But at 2.50 with more than one goal scored in the fixture, it’s one I’ve pencilled in.

  • Selection: Legia Win and 2+ Match Goals
  • Best Odds: 2.50 (bet365)
  • Stakes: 7/10

WHAT IS A FOOTBALL ACCA?

A football acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A football acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create football accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the football acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
